Sure was, eh? Too bad I wasn't born at that time :(

Awesome video though, thanks!

The 956 is an awesome car. Wish there was a video of Bellof doing his 6:11 qualifying lap at the Nordschleife! Oh well, can't get everything..

Totally AMAZING!

Wicked speeds on the straight!

Was it a Nissan RCP92 that he passed so easily? It looked like so.

Why was it so faster than everybody else?

I don't know what car you're thinking of but since this was the year 1983 and the R92CP debuted in 91 or 92 (I think) it's definately not that car.

The 956 was very quick due to good aerodynamic design and the suction effect created by the special under-body design, making the car acting like it was glued to the road (compared to older designs anyway).

I recommend reading this book by Peter Morgan. He goes through the development of the car and its successful years in endurance racing, very interesting to read, especially if you're a Porsche and/or 956/962 fanatic. :)

:)

Judging by the livery and the number which can hardly be told, but anyways
I'm guessing it this car:

A Sauber C7

Photos of the 1983 cars can be found here.

Thats another clip from the Derek Bell 'In-car 956' DVD, which also contains in-car videos from a range of circuits.

While the Beloff 6min 11secs lap is not one of them, it does have a 6min 41sec lap by Derek Bell, which is not bad considering the additional weight of the camera gear (not light in '83).

I'm sure I've seen it linked to in posts on here before.

I would however strongly recommend getting the full DVD, its more than worth the money, here is a link to a company that will ship it worldwide.
