Whats this?
As I'm looking forward to this new kind of racing in GT5 I wonder what Type of Kart it is ?

It is called GT Kart 100. But what are the specs ?

Is it a 100cc 2-stroke engine or maybe 100hp 4-stroke?
How heavy are these Karts and how fast are they?

Any Karting-Specialists out there?

It's just a fictional kart, so there aren't any specifications on it yet. We'll probably have to wait until GT5 is released to get any further information on it.

Yes, maybe there's no GT Kart 100 in real-life. But I believe it's something very realistic specs- and also performance wise.

I definitely think it's got a 2-stroke 100cc engine, single gear and centrifugal clutch.
Probably around 15-17 horsepower.

You'll find out in 3 weeks. After reading the title, was coming here thinking someone had specs for it. Disappointing.

There were videos of those from the Gamescom. Max speed was around 60 Km/h, and by the sound, it's using a 2 stroke engine.

On a Monza video posted in the News section, they were going over 110 Km/h, with speed still increasing.

They'll probably be getting up to 110-140kmh. I dont know much about karting, but maybe the "100" stands for something like a Yamaha KT100 engine, I've heard those are pretty dominant in karting. About 15hp. There's also Rotax Heavy which uses 125cc engines of about 28hp.

On the 2nd page of this pdf there's some of the classes listed out...

its called gixxer cart :P look u youtube
suzuki gsxr bike engine

A modern GSXR engine would be pushing 190hp, I wouldn't want to drive a car that light and twitchy with that much power unless it had some epic aerodynamics to keep it planted :P

100cc engines were the top of karting up untill 2007 when it moved to kf1 (watercooled 125cc), however 100cc karts were dieing off before that and being replaced by rotax 125cc watercooled which are run by the majority now, or tkm 110cc 2 strokes . The engines produce 32bhp from their single cylinder, 100cc 2 stroke engines. They reach about 100-120kph by the end of straights however they are single speed. The karts weigh about 150kg with driver. They arn't made for straightline speed but hardly antything can beat them on the bends.

Because they have defined 100cc in the name I'm holding out hope for other types of karts.
I hope for maybe cadet karts (60cc 2 strokes 55mph top speed, 5.5bhp)
Rotax Max ( About same spec as 100cc)
125cc, 250cc Shifter karts (125's top speed 120mph , 160mph for 250's, up too 50bhp, 2 stokes, 250's are faster than f3 cars.)

Here's a vid of me racing at my local curcuit in a minimax. (junior version of Rotax Max)

it can put out 15-16 bhp and will go over 100km/h but the engine in the game is reving quite high mine goes to around 16k and i think over 17k it would blow up :P

This is closer to what we have in Gran Turismo 5.

The first video- Superkart race on the Isle of Man- is the best. I doubt we'll be able to tune and upgrade the kart to Superkart in GT5 but hopefully at some point (perhaps GT6), you can add rear spoiler and increase the downforce (and the engine). And then take it down to Citta d'Aria and race (hopefully we can already race kart at Citta d'Aria, Madrid, London in GT5).

Nice one. That pass near the end is brilliant. And I love how you were stalking/drafting the guy in the red and BOOM! you passed him and went after the next guy.

karting seems kinda lame in gt5 , fun but mario kart fun (whitout weapons) less fun then :P

You might want to edit your post so it doesn't break the AUP's rules about grammar. Capitals and full stops please.

You can find it here. www.gtplanet.net/aup

The sense of speed in that Isle of Man video is incredible! From what I gather these are not the types of karts we'll be getting though.

However I've been wondering - the videos showcasing karting in GT5 that I've seen make it appear that you are puttering along too slowly - anyone else get this impression?

IMO GT has never given a great sense of speed and that's unfortunate for karts. They will still be fun I'm sure but even at 100KM/H they look pretty docile in GT but in real life ...

I don't think it really has either. Hope they can capture that better in GT5.

Is that all the power they make ? I assume the 125 water cooled rotax is the same one as in the rs 125 aprilia. its the 250's which I'm surprised with, only 50hp ?
can you use any 250cc 2t engine? if so why not get hold of an engine from a Honda RS250 gp bike fitted with a full jha tuning kit =75-90 hp (weather Dependant) we had a regular 85 rwhp from our Honda gp bike with this engine
