Hi All,

First post here. I run a small (1000 subscriber) YouTube channel, for fun - not trying to take over the world. The focus is videogames and in the last few weeks I have started playing more and more GT5 with my friends.

Whilst there are a decent number of videos on YouTube of hot laps / cars etc, many of them do not have a commentary or are recorded via camera-phone or in Standard Def. As I record in HD I wondered if anyone who was extremely good at the game would be interested in providing me with some replay footage (I assume you can watch other people's saved replays somehow in GT5, and it would be nice to bring this to my audience with a bit of production / commentary over it.

I am also keen to get some more people interested in joining races with us (mix of cars, but generally avoiding the ultra-high PP racing versions, just for a bit of variety). A large number of people in the race would make it pretty exciting. I'm thinking I could commentate over the exciting bits of the race later, and if any regulars from this board are interested in joining up think we could get some excellent rivalry / friendly banter going on based around GT5.

If anyone is interested in this, or any other further 'refinements' to the GT5 YT community, please get in touch. I'm all ears. My channel is at www.youtube.com/user/mrvanleider - (lots of call of duty at the moment but hopefully you'll see that it is not the normal childish drivel.... more my adult drivel)

Thanks for reading.

I wouldn't call myself "extremely good" at the game but I can stay on the the track. I drive as fast as I can but I also try not to make contact with other cars. I also recently started recording in HD. However, I do it for the GT5 community and not for money, subscribers, likes or generally selfish promotion. Previously, my videos were recorded purely so I could upload them to youtube and watch them away from a computer on my phone. The demographic I attract is one where videos are void of commentary and allow the viewer to simply enjoy the gameplay without random nonsense or thoughts the poster has. Sure, I could make up a personality to attempt to please an audience but that involves work and I'm not here for work. I'm here for pleasure. The simple pleasure of joining my fellow GT5ers in solemn reverance to a game once played. I'm in the process of setting all standard def video to private. I don't use commentary because, trust me, you would not want to hear me inventing new phrases live on a GT5. I find that with this game, there isn't much to talk about unless the intent is to dub your voice over a replay of a race. In that case, I don't mind it. In the case of general rambling on about the gamer's day, I couldn't care less, and I'd rather hear only the car and/or music. Personally, I don't enjoy commentating while racing as it ends up breaking concentration no matter how good you are. This is not to imply a right or wrong but rather my viewpoint as a youtuber and GT5 gamer. I'll check out your channel.

Thanks for the feedback.

I imagine that 'post-commentary' would be better over a replay, quite often I mess about with Skype and therefore I could perform short 'interviews' with people on interesting parts of a given race... "So then Joe... I noticed you were pretty sideways through most of that corner... is that the fastest way to do it??"

Ultimately the plan is to throw a bit of production values / HD behind it and see what happens. I don't monetise the videos, more looking to produce as high-quality content as possible (my production skills being far in advance of my GT skills).

I like your channel. Also, the motto No ads, No Ego, No subscribers is funny! Off-topic but I play Skyrim too(don't we all JK)

Never thought i'd get into Skyrim but eventually I did. Once you get over the fact that everyone looks like they're from an 80's poodle-hair rock group and talks with a silly accent it's actually really fun!

The idea of having a more 'community minded' ethos on the channel has never really happened, but i'm hoping branching out into new games / communities will build some more opportunities for such things - Call of Duty is a big community, but not exactly a pleasant or mature one...

I play Call of Duty offline because at the end of a gaming session online, I simply cannot relate to the community. I agree, its a big community and with that large size comes the high probability you'll run into people who are rude, entitled, and will stop at nothing to gain a little self-esteem. Having served in the US Military only sours the grapes more for me (seeing and hearing all the wanna-bes talk like they have a clue as to what the Military is about in general).

Let's play series seem to get loads of views on youtube but with this comes the responsibility to your viewers to upload at an alarming rate of two-three videos a day simply to please their raging desires for "MOAR."

Ok, sorry back on topic. I've only seen one guy get to the endurance races in a lets play on youtube. There may be more out there but I can't find anyone who's ever completed a full game of GT5 (Licenses, Special Events, A-spec, B-spec[this seems to bore many youtubers as they're not really into "management" games]. The tedious nature of the endurance races alone is enough to steer many Let's Players away from GT5. This, coupled with the sheer amount of skill/time invested it takes to complete the entire game, is what scares most away. Furthermore, I'm convinced that even if one were to fully complete the game on record every minute, the amount of viewers who would stay for the long haul or even watch in general would not be enough to validate such a choice. Even so, I have fully enjoyed the LPs I've seen.

Agree I like LP's but I think my focus with GT will be the slightly more casual approach, not saying that I don't like to race but having a job that (at least theoretically) requires me to be in the office all day means that I want my youtube to be fun for me first and foremost.

With my skill level i'm not convinced a LP on GT would be watchable even by my mother!

I'd like the idea though of setting a challenge - maybe set track / car / fixed tunes or whatever and doing a one lap challenge and changing it around every week or so and let people contribute their times, so I can make a chart of who won each challenge each week.

I'll have a look at your channel later on, YT is rather sensibly blocked by my IT department who have not yet restricted access to GTP.net.... :)

I highly recommend posting videos of your laps in the Online seasonal events(For instance the current one is Time Trial/Drift Trial #40). You'll never see me upload a drift trial for points(Gold, Silver, or Bronze) because frankly, my skill level is lacking in that area. The GT planet guys I've seen on youtube usually upload these on a regular basis. Be careful watching the F1 seasonal as some of these guys' piloting the F2007 and F2010 are aliens and this equals /Mindblown

Haha - I noticed that :) One thing to win the event, quite another to produce a video that 14 year-olds who can't even reach the pedals won't laugh at mercilessly!

I have 55 Hot Lap videos in HD, if they're of any value to you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nE9zcC6KDJ8
I know that I am a very good driver but a noob compared to the very best like mike_gt3 and Sutuki, they can lap the Nordschleife like 8-12 seconds faster than me in any given car, these dudes are geniuses behind the wheel. If you wanna check out their laps (in HD videos partially I believe), you should check out this thread: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=214611

Oh and  at your "little channel of 1000 subs" comment. I am very glad when I finally reach 100, and I uploaded by now 200 videos, many of them, made by me (like tributes and such), am at 80 right now (subs).

Nice channel you've got there. Subscribed. I have a small YouTube channel (Under 30 subscribers) and I post Minecraft videos. I will be branching onto other games like Portal and some small Indie games.

I plan on picking up a HDPVR when I am in the States in a couple of weeks time so I can post GT5/LBP2/Assassins Creed videos. I do have CoD but I'm just not a fan of the community, but it's a easy way to whore views, so I'll probably post some Black Ops commentaries to boost my views.

One thing I'll plan on doing is doing a license test guide.

In response to your question about replays in the op, I assume if the player is using a HDPVR they could record their replays and send you off the finished recording for you to commentate over.

Hi! I took a look at your channel and it is very nice! Congratulations :) I also have a little channel about gran turismo 5 Videos ( mostly, they are about GT5 Cars , done with photomode and some short videos i record with my phone, so quality is not the best in those one ). Personally i would be very glad to join in some online races, so if you are interested i can help you in providing you a more larger-people races, i also prefer to play in medium range PP cars, roadcars especially. If you want it too, you can add me on the PSN, my ID is on my profile

here is my channel, and good luck for your vids ;) !

I enjoy recording my races but I don’t have a PVR I just use a camera pointing at the screen. My account is gtp_joylord maybe there’s something of interest for you there. I try be creative with my videos but have not ventured or brave enough to go down the route of adding commentary.

The thing I’m battling to figure out at the moment is why YouTube chops my videos in half.

Hey guys, I saw the title stating the "youtube community" and since I'm a youtuber and all too and I also feature some GT5, I might as well post my greeting here.

MrVanleider, how are you able to get that many subscribers?! Please let me know, I want to make my youtube grow and such; I'm trying to be a helping hand to most communities out there, with GTP being one of them (the aim for a partnership is a secondary purpose as I want something like small compensations to aid my current $$$ standing in one way or another with my passion for video making and racing & all.)

I'm going to feature GT5 in my upcoming video series (apparently, I try to breathe in some unique story and feature it with GT5 and other racing simulators). Some time soon in the future, I'm hoping to ask for GT Planet's help during recordings and such (like traffic and other character cars related to certain scripts) I hope I can ask the good people of GTP to help and make it a huge success.

you can check out my channel here:

I'm open to all feedbacks, suggestions, tie ups. And Don't forget to subscribe. I'll subscribe to you in return. :)

I have got some replays of online race series, their is a lot of good fighting in them. I could send you them if you need some extra footage.

Thanks to everyone for your responses.

I am working hard this week but hopefully when I get some time I will check out all of your channels and subscribe you.

I have been working on a little introduction video which uses some of the movie from GT5, moved some clips around, added colour correction and a new soundtrack and stuff, looks relatively slick (if only the same could be said of my driving).

I will post it up here when I have something to show.

Thanks again, watch this space,

MrVanleider

I wondered about this, I'm sure that longer term, Sony/PD should see the potential in having an active YouTube base pushing out future DLC for example like Activision have done with the call of duty / elite which they are using to monetise the community to an even greater extent.

Surely it should be possible to provide some kind of subscription DLC / forever changing car pack with fixed PP which would cycle every week according to whatever challenge set - cars that are already in the game but you could pay a small sum to use the 'fixed' car, which would be then eligible in that week's time trial event.

However, all this is some way off I think, and certainly didn't want to turn up here asking for the keys to the store!

Anybody available from 8am - 11am Philippines time (GMT +8:00) for a recording tomorrow? I'll need at least 6 guys to pose as traffic cars around Special Stage Route 5. Add me on PSN and meet at my lounge if anyone's ok for it.

I've got a channel myself and am very capable of recording my videos in HD. Alot of my GT5 videos consist of Hot Laps, Sound dubs and First laps in either DLC tracks or cars. I do actually have three race highlight videos I did myself (Still in the process of completing the rest of them).

You can find my channel here.
