After searching the classifieds for several (in game) months VetteChix Racing finally acquired the much-coveted 1963 Corvette Z06 Race Car from Justin (JUST IN). I couldn’t wait to get it on the track for a test drive because I wanted to enter it into the Historic Racing Car Cup. Before I could finish the first lap, I just about gave up on it. Whoever owned it last must not have known what they were doing because it was tuned for trash.
I decided to work on it myself, so I rolled it into the VetteChix garage and began turning my wrench. I tried several different settings and tested each one until I finally got it drivable again. Once I was happy with its performance, I swapped the tires with a set of racing softs and bolted on a compressor and high RPM turbocharger. Now I was ready to enter the race.
When the car and I arrived at the French Riviera we immediately drove to the Côte d'Azur circuit HQ and registered for the Historic Racing Car Cup. That night in the hotel, I ordered room service and ate like a queen.
In the morning I quickly got myself down to the track and did my pre-race checks. With a positive attitude we all rolled up to our starting lines and began the pre-lap for a rolling start. My first attempt did not go as well as hoped and I came in a shameful tenth place. At this point I decided to get some advice on tuning. After trying a few suggested settings, I found one that felt better than my own tune attempt and was ready to try again. This time I came in sixth place which was better, but still not good enough. I was at a loss but decided to tweek the settings even more but how? On a whim, I thought I’d try something with the suspension that sounded wrong but actually made the car perform even better than before. I was excited to try the race again, but I would have to wait until tomorrow.

The little corvette started off strong and began moving up through the ranks, but I soon discovered that the Chaparrals are cheat cars! And wasn’t that 2J banned by the Sports Car Club of America for using two fans under the vehicle that created a vacuum which sucked it to the track? Guess this isn’t America so let’s do this. I moved up to 3rd place by the beginning of lap 3 but was passed by the 2J doorstop in the middle of lap 4 and it quickly pulled away from me never to be seen again. Those front 3 cars were so far ahead that I was not going to catch any of them. I finished the race in fourth place and the rest in this order:
1 Jaguar XJ13 Race Car.’66
2 Toyota 7 Race Car ‘70
3 Chaparral 2J Race Car ‘76
4 Darkesta - Corvette Z06 Race Car ‘63
5 Chaparral 2D Race Car ‘67
6 Ford GT40 Race Car ‘69
7 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Race Car ‘63
8 Chaparral 2J Race Car ‘76
9 Toyota 7 Race Car ‘70
10 Jaguar XJ13 Race car’66
11 Ford Mark IV Race Car ‘67
12 Ferrari 330 P4 Race Car ‘67
I felt like I could really place in this race and wouldn’t be happy without making it to the podium and taking home a trophy. I demanded a rematch and the other racers were happy to oblige. This time I got lucky and near the end or the fourth lap E. Claeys and C. Juarez crashed into the wall allowing me to pass them both. I just couldn’t catch that Jaguar and placed 2nd taking home a silver trophy.
Back at home I could not get that race out of my mind, and I spoke with some friends about it. Scotty told me my car “just didn’t have the power” and Doc Brown said, “Your flux capacitor isn’t fluxing.” Upon hearing this I did some research on the Chaparral 2J Race Car and discovered that it was powered by a Chevrolet Corvette 427 engine. Now I had to have one however, VetteChix Racing did not have 14 million dollars in their bank account.
It is now my mission to earn the millions I need and get my hands on that car! To be continued….
