Edmonds says new xB out in 2006? Others say it's not until 2008. XB has a funky look, but if they make it bigger and more thirsty for gas I doubt if it will be competition for the Fit. Some front pictures show no console and an entertainment center. Here;s some info:

The only updates I have herd about the xB is that it would recieve a minior style tweak, but nothing about an all-new car untill 2009, at the earliest.

...Chances are, the cars may be based on the Yaris, as the current xA and xB still reside on the old Echo bits and pieces.

I wonder if this would be unsafe? I often have a passenger with a bad knee. On the plus side, a rear seated passenger is usually safer, and in lounge mode would still have the advantages of side airbags. On the negaive side, perhaps a passenger might "submarine" under the belts in a frontal crash, also rear passengers faired worse in side crashes.

Sounds like a technical question only Honda can answer, so how do we get past the sales people and ask Honda engineers?

IMO, local dealer is the best way to go. I would ask one of their managers to get in touch with Honda and have hims ask them directly. I don't know if that is the job of the service department or the sales department. They might try to pass the buck or take a wild guess, so you'll probably have to be a bit persistent.

You can try emailing or calling Honda directly, but those people usually don't bother researching anything(that's why they are called "customer (no)service" most of the time. Personally, I wouldn't waste my time with them.

Edit: Oh, and I'd do it in person. It will work out a lot easier and smoother that way.

Mister Future Models is here to tell you that the sex goddess otherwise known as the Scion xB will debut in fully-redesigned (and notably LARGER) form for MY 08, though for a Toyota that could mean a debut from anywhere between January 2007 to May 2008, since they're one of few remaining brands to debut vehicles in the same calendar and model year. Don't count on it, though, for at LEAST fourteen to sixteen months.

Pure speculation: a larger engine will come too. Sorry, but the 103hp 1.6 is a piece of trash.

Not pure speculation: Nissan Cube will be here in 20-26 months.

Yes, I have herd about the Cube quite often, and I think it has Toyota a bit worried. I would hope the xB would take some pieces from the Yaris, but they can't hide the fact that it is a Toyota...

@ Robindjeanne: I belive the Fit is actually quite safe, as I think it has proven itself pretty well in most European safety tests. Of course, they don't have three-ton Hummer H2s to share the streets with, so US standards might shake it up just a bit.

Thanks for your responses on Honda safety. Actually I think Honda Fit is one of the safest small cars out there. The question I had about the Fit was how safe it would be for a passenger to ride with seats in the lounge mode. A couple salesmen I talked with thought it would be fine since a lounge mode passenger still had the side air bags (of course they're trying to sell the car). I doubt if any other vehicle has this option, and unless the Fit was actually tested in the lounge mode, maybe even Honda engineers don't know.

I probably wouldn't want to sit like that in the event of a crash, but I doubt it would be a huge deal.

You know what the weird thing about this car is? They've been selling like crazy, but I've literally seen two of them since it's debut. According to my kid brother, this is because I never go to downtown(though I went today). Supposedly, there are bunch of them there.

I noticed the same thing, I have yet to see one in real life.

I've seen a lot. I went on a long roadtrip to very rural areas just when they were being released, and I even saw them in small towns where you wouldn't expect to find any Honda, let alone brand new ones. I'm surprised at how fast they're catching on already. This just proves that manufacturers holding cars back because they don't think the US will buy them is stupid - Audi lost several years' profit on A3 sales, and Honda's got the same issue with the Fit. And let's not lie - if BMW brought the 1-series here, it'd sell like mad too.

My local Honda Dealer today: We don't have any 5spd Fit, but should be getting some automatics in soon for a test drive.................. Does Honda want to sell those cars or what? Crank up the production, PLEASE! :dopey:

I guess they haven't got a lot of confidence in your market.

I've only seen one Honda Fit in Grand Rapids, and it was a demo model that was sold quite quickly (electric blue, sport package, 5-speed manual). According to the dealer, they wern't expecting another shipment untill the middle or end of July, and even then it was only supposed to be three cars, two of which were automatics.

The people who sell them here as a-holes anyway. I've gone in three times to look at the car, and each time I've pretty much been written off by the salesmen. Don't know why, as I fit the bill for the average Fit buyer, and I know my '96 Jetta is worth big-bucks on their used-car lot.

I like the car, I really do, but when the sales people act the way they do, it isn't even worth it.

Yeah, since the rise in gas prices, they don't even try to sell anymore. At Toyota and Honda dealers, little cars are just flying off the shelves, so it's a really bad time to look at car like Fit these days.

The problem is, gas prices aren't that bad... People are going crazy because thye have to pay a few extra dollars than what they did a few years ago for gasoline. But when we really sit down and crunch the numbers, gasoline was more expensive in the mid-'70s than what it is today, the difference of about $4.50 a gallon (in today's dollars) in the '70s versus the $3.20 we are paying today.

...I usually tell people to suck it up, and quit driving big, rather unnecessary SUVs that they aren't using properly, and stop complaining.

Same thing with the Civic. Honda has a huge global demand for their new line-up, and it takes time to get things going.

Too bad, the five-speed is damn quick for a 1.5.

I'm so tired of that. I'll show up on a used car lot that ought to be begging for customers and no-one will come out to talk to me. The other day I went to check out a 1995 740iL, a vehicle which I feel is inferior to the 1997 model that I want, and I couldn't even get a salesman to come out of his hut. And **** me if I'm going in there to get HIM. I showed up to look at that vehicle in a $23000 SUV.

I've been on six used car lots during hours of operation in the last week, and only one lot actually offered me a test drive - in a 1999 Mercedes ML320. And even then, the guy only let me take it three blocks.

Here's the deal folks: between my cash reserves and my trade-in, I have more money than these used car salesman make in two months. So how about coming out and actually pretending you know what you're talking about? (and no, sitting in the back seat, spotting the air-con vent, and saying "it's even got rear air" does not count as knowing what you're talking about)
