For me, it's school. I have a small mountain of homework to scale so I am working through it. Also, I have a date this weekend and I have been tense since I found out it was happening. I have a lot of trouble sleeping as it is, as I always worry about everything and anything else going on more than myself.

So... What's keeping you awake tonight, my fellow :gtplanet: members?

Crippling stomach pain, feels like I might throw up soon.

Also being unemployed doesn't help, nothing to get up for equals late nights.
I'm a miserable sod tonight, I do apologize.

Driving. Been driving for 5 hours, I've still got to go 160 miles, pick up some chicken and take it 200 miles back home at about 4 am. Then do the same thing again every day until I'm off Sunday.

Actual insomnia.

Usually don't fall asleep until 4-5am, but I try my best to go to bed around 2-3.

I just don't feel tired. I feel extra tired in the morning though.

I have the same problem. Sometimes I won't sleep at all.

In the past, lack of serotonin and thus not enough melatonin, in my brain

and

Stress.

Oops, I misread the thread title.

I read: The insomnia thread; What's keeping you awake at night?

I have tech induced insomnia, I shut down my computer get in bed but then I spend 30-45mins on random stuff on my phone.

I fall asleep fine after that though, however 6.5hours per night isn't enough ;)

I don't suffer much. Had a period in 2008 when I would be awake for days with less than an hour a night of shut-eye. That was woman related though.

These days I find sleep comes easily to me unless I have something on my mind in which case I need to put on some tunes to get me off to the land of nod.

I have always had trouble sleeping. I tend to have an overly active mind where I process everything often during the night. Currently what keeps me awake is my desire to gain permanent residency for myself and my girlfriend in Australia, as well as my current employment situation. I have always had a love hate relationship with sleep and despite my best efforts still can not reliably and consistently get a good nights sleep.

I have had probably 6 hours sleep in the last 3 days! Not good but hey that's life :-)

Vino tends to help haha

Ooooh! An insomnia thread!
Well, unfortunately I really do have sleeping disorders. I probably only get 5 hours of sleep per 2-3 days, hence why my user title is Insomniac.

Tonight though, I have a stomach ache. It's really weird because the stomach ache is making my legs ache also. This sucks. :grumpy:

alcohol does not help you sleep.

Alcohol is a depressant, so yes, it can help you sleep depending on how your body reacts. Why do you think cold medicine like NyQuil is mostly alcohol with a few other things thrown in?

Perhaps what Marco meant is that alcohol doesn't help you sleep well. It can help you drop off, but the quality of sleep is likely to be lower.

Ah, now here's something I can relate to - alcohol.

It entirely depends on your person and what mood you are in and what you drink.

For me 8 beers is like a bottle of Rohipnol and puts me down like a rabbis infested dog...as soon as my head hits the pillow. If I'm anywhere else and not ready for sleep I don't take it.

Certain spirits, like gin, tend to give me a rise in sleeplessness but only to the point where I end up talking to myself and that's what's keeping me awake.

For a few years, as I've mentioned above, I slept poorly and often relied on drinking vast volumes of cider to get my off to sleep.

For some, yes that's true, but for others they can down a bunch of alcohol and be out like a light. I know if I have a couple glasses of wine I drift off into a really deep sleep. In general though alcohol does keep you sleeping, like I said that's why cold medicine like NyQuil is just alcohol.

I know there will be studies proving the effects both ways, but it is believe that alcohol reduces REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, or dream sleep. Anyway, a couple of beers before bed always helps me :)

I hope you don't drink NyQuil like you drink your wine.

How did you come to make that statement?

NyQuil has a much higher concentration of alcohol in it than a glass of wine.

Most of the times that I can't sleep, is because of a cold.

Other less common reasons are back pain, small depressions and, on very rare occassions, last time being about 7 months ago, school homework...

I'll lie in bed from 11oclock to around 12oclock, just watching TV and browsing. Then I just go to sleep and end up sleeping for 12-13 hours.

Kinda the most pointless post in this thread. :p

My smart phone helps me to get to sleep if I put on a music stream. 👍

My wife, on the other hand, is up until the early hours looking at fashion on Instagam.
