In summary; this is an eight meeting, eight month long multi vehicle championship designed (to be a lot of fun) to find the best all round driver (and be a lot of fun).

There is one meeting per month consisting of two contrasting races.

15th February 2012, Fiat 500s in the city.

13th March, 520pp Rally cars at Chamonix and Eiger short track.

10th April, classics at Autumn Ring and Nordschleife.

8th May, Karts at Space 1 and Grand Valley East.

12th June, Camaro SS10 RM at Spa and Corvette ZR1 RM at Suzuka in the rain.

10th July, Stock Supercars at Grand Valley and G.V. Reversed on Sports tyres.

14th August, full on race cars at Fuji F and Nurb GP/F.

11th September, heavyweights at Indi Road and Cape Ring.

Due to its nature this is probably the most prestigious championship ever held at GTP, or maybe it isn’t. But, with the right number of people with the right attitude it could be a very good series.

If you are interested, please read on:

Friends, GTPers, citizens, I have been inspired by the great racers of old, such as Jimmy Clark, Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart, who raced all sorts of motors; Rally cars on a Saturday, Sports Prototypes on Sunday then Super Saloons the next week.

Those guys raced at a time when drivers were expected to show class on any surface with any machine, and it got me thinking about us here at GTP. We all have our favourite genre of racing, tracks where we are quicker and those where we struggle relatively. How would we manage across a broad range of racing styles? (And, as an aside, how many types of racing are we missing out on by sticking with our favourites?)

With that in mind I have formulated an eight meet championship that will test our ability to adapt.

The meetings will be held once a month, on the second Tuesday of each month, starting at 7.30pm Tuesday 15th February 2012. There will be plenty of time for us to practice for each round.

The first meeting will use the Fiat 500. It’s a city car, so the racing will be in the city. Firstly, there will be a 12 lap race of Cote d Azure using the car absolutely stock on comfort medium tyres.

This will be followed by a 40 lap race of Madrid, again with the 500, but with no limits. All tuning, aero, lightening and tyres will be allowed.

The March meeting is for any rally car, excluding Mitsubishis and Subarus. Tuning is allowed, with a limit of 520pp. The first race, 11 laps of Chamonix, will be unusual in that half the points will be available for the 20 minutes qualifying and half for the race.

The rally courses pose a particular problem regarding visibility when one car is following another. In order to assist in overcoming this, the grid will be slowest first and upon the start of the race the guy at the front will set off immediately but the one in second position will wait ten seconds before setting off, third a further ten seconds etc. These lost seconds will be compensated for in the result. Therefore, if a chap catches you up he is already ahead of you. Whether you let him through to avoid slowing each other down is up to you.

The second race of that meeting will be 18 laps of Eiger Nordwand short track using the same car, this time on comfort hard tyres. (Did I mention it was black ice racing?) The grid for that race will be the reverse of the sequence in which the cars cross the line in the first race.

The April meeting is for classics. Firstly, 18 laps of Autumn Ring in the Mercedes SL300 ’54 on comfort soft tyres. This will be followed by 10 laps of Nordschleife in the utterly beautiful Alfa Giulia TZ2 on racing hard tyres. Tuning will be prohibited for both races.

The May meeting will be for Sports Soft shod Karts, any Kart, firstly 60 laps of Space 1, followed by a 40 lap race around Grand Valley East.

In June will be; what else but rain? We will use the Camaro SS10 RM, with tuning prohibited, for 18 laps around Spa; then 25 laps of Suzuka driving the Corvette ZR1 RM with no restrictions on tuning. The conditions will be dry and overcast at the start of the qualifying session and will not be reset for the race. Weather change will be set at 10. Any tyres can be used.

For July we will be driving road cars; the first race being with the AMG SLS, stock and on sports hard tyres, for 16 laps of Grand Valley. The next race will be using the stock Ferrari 458 Italia for 30 laps of Grand Valley Reversed on sports soft.

In August the full on race cars come out to play. Firstly up to 680pp, any car, any tyre for 20 laps of Fuji F. This will be followed by a race of 32 laps around Nurb’ GP/F using any car up to 720pp, any tyre. Tuning is unlimited for both races.

Finally, in September, the Big Boys are in town. There will be a race using the Ford SVT Lightning, with any tuning allowed, on race medium tyres. These will race for 20 laps of the Indi Road course. The second race will be for the Range Stormer, in stock condition and on comfort soft tyres, for 19 laps of Cape Ring.

And that’s it chaps.

Track edge will be set to low, all assists except driving line and ABS will be off. Tyre wear will be on, slipstreaming set to low, no boost. Damage and penalties will be set to light.

Unless otherwise stated there will be a ten minute qualifying session for the first race and a fastest first grid. There will be a fifteen minute acclimatisation session before the start of the second race, which will have a reversed grid based on the result of the first race.

The scoring system will be 40 points for first place, 38 for second, 36 for third etc. This is in order to allow the splitting of the points for the first rally race/qualifying.

I realise that committing to an eight month long series is a bit of a challenge but I hope that it is one that enough people are prepared to make in order for the series to be as interesting as it could be. This really is an opportunity to find out where we stand relatively overall and for those who haven’t raced some of the machinery listed; you won’t believe how much fun they are.

Anyone who is forced to miss a meeting will be credited with 50% of their average score over their first four scoring meetings for the one missed. Anyone who misses two meetings will have to withdraw from the series.

Cheers, Z.

Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, and Stirling Moss?

Yes! But will it be all different racing cars? No production cars? Id rather I be all racing cars, but I'm interested.

Nitro, those guys were my inspiration because they didn't always use racing cars. All of them raced in street cars and Touring cars at some time; Stirling drove 84 different types competitively and managed to come second in the 1952 Monte Carlo Rally, something you just don't see nowadays.

The closest we ever come today is The Race of Champions, which goes some way to sorting the men from the boys, and the superstar names that are known worldwide don't get their own way too often in that.

I have raced against a lot of very fast chaps in GT5 (I'm moderately quick myself, no superstar), the majority of whom tend to stick to one genre of racing. I want to get people to challenge themselves and discover the fun to be had by introducing variety into their racing.

The format I have chosen will allow those who have the dedication plenty of time to practice each of the disciplines and maybe give those who appear to be quicker than them a run for their money.

I've got to say, I think that it'll be fascinating for those who do turn out and I'm a bit mystified by the lack of response.

Cheers, Z.

I race Kate and I love Motorsport so I'm down to race anything. I'll join. Those guys were legends

Zolon,

Haha, I've seen you drive and I reckon you are a superstar especially on those comfort softs!

I like the format but will have to check the diary. I wouldn't want to commit myself and then find out that I have to miss races - that's never good.

Hope you get a good response to this, it looks great.

Esio.

Hi zolon, dont know if you would be interested in this. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=238234
I have read through your post, and it is hard to get people on here to commit to a series. it has taken me months to get in with a good group of racers. But now I have, I have managed to get them join my league. Take a look, we are all clean mature racers, and there are only a few places left. If this series is a success then the next one will be a different discipline of racing.
Cheers
Ade

I want to join this championship so bad! But I will be in school whilst the race are happening except for June 24th 9Last day of school before summer vacation) and August 14th (First day back at school).

Nitro, if this was to be moved to Saturday evenings British time, about mid day Saturday for you, would you be able to take part?

Cheers, Z.
