Came up with this interesting question while browsing GTPlanet. I think it's rather interesting.

As all of you know many great racing games plague the gaming and simulator industry nowadays. We're not in 1997 again with Gran Turismo now the playing field is more equal in terms of quality with undoubtedly great games out there such as Project CARS which is yet to come out, the FORZA series, iRacing.

So, what makes you play Gran Turismo? What makes you love Gran Turismo so that you stay faithful to it? After all these years, what's the little things you feel Gran Turismo differentiates himself from others?

As a personal opinion, for me, it has to be the sheer amount of passion and love for cars this game has. Gran Turismo has always been known for not valuating one car more than the other (except for the common issue about the flood of Japanese cars compared to other worldwide brands.), the little details about all of them. Not to mention the great gameplay i've throughoutly enjoyed throughout the years from Gran Turismo 1 to Gran Turismo 5 which still feels like it's Gran Turismo.

I guess the little message Gran Turismo throws out there that not other games like FORZA (which are amazing, no doubt about it) is that Gran Turismo is not all about having fun while playing. It's about learning the motorsports industry, it's about being immersed in this sport. Gran Turismo above being a simulator or a game or whatever, it is a car encyclopedia. Something that not many other similar games do.

It's the little things.

The only reason I play GT5 is because I do not have the money to afford to play a better sim such as iRacing. There are many things wrong with this game and for Kaz to be a pioneer for over 15 years developing a racing game with that many hidden flaws is unacceptable.

Gran Turismo is the only game where I've really felt a connection to my car - like I own it. The only series that comes close to this feeling is Forza but even then it just.. I don't know it doesn't feel the same.

In most games I feel more like I'm renting a car or borrowing it. I guess that's why I look over GT5s flaws and continue to play it to this day.

I keep "playing" it because it's the most realistic console driving game there is so far. That is all.

Car variety is the best of all sims/games in my opinion.

I've never played any others; I don't have Xbox or game capable PC and have no interest in trying them. I've played GT since 2 but 5 is the first one where I've had real fun. The seasonal payouts meant that I can have all the cars I want.

As others have said, it is the variety of cars and the obvious passion built in to the game. I have little interest in modern super cars - I much prefer to use and tune the classics, the small, the unlikely and the unloved in a David and Goliath way I suppose. Doesn't always work of course but it is FUN.

I just love the ability to go from owning a cheap little hatchback or something, to having a massive plethora of worlds finest racers, supercars, and sports cars to use whenever you feel.

i like how each car has the history on the rightside wen view

I've loved Gran TURISMO from the very start and have never found another racing game that even comes close to it,
The 1st thing that drew me to it back in GT1 was the buying and selling of cars and that you needed to win races to have money to tune your cars as well as the licence test's to race in other class's (which GT5 didn't do :( )

Now I've got all of that and now I'm racing online in leagues and making my own series, i mean how more close to real racing can you get.

Don't think il ever get board of the GT games :)
Well unless PD don't sort there servers out properly for us hardcore online racers 👍

I've found with GT that somehow you get a good impression that the car is really there on the track, tyres to tarmac.

I've played some Forza, and whilst I don't take away that it is a good driving game, it almost feels like I'm driving on a really thin layer of wax just above the road surface, and just doesn't feel like I'm connected with the road, doesn't quite feel so genuine as GT.

I believe you've said it for a lot of us. The real connection is there in GT. I may be a 38 year old Fanboy, but it just rings true.

This game Respects Muscle Cars. I used to play Need For Speed World which was totally biased towards what cars would get great stats and which ones wouldn't. They put an early '60's Ford in the game that in real life has around 100 HP, but in NFSW they put it in B class (the classes go E being the lowest, D, C, B, A, and S being the highest) and a Challenger with a HEMI in E class. Another being the Mustang Boss 302 '69 being in B class while the Camaro SS '67 is in D class. WHAT UP EA!

Forza just gives you everything for free - all the prize cars and the level 4 affinity stuff sorta desensitizes you to the value of your car unless the car is expensive to begin with. On GT5 it feels like you're actually working on a car rather than ticking options on a checklist to round an arbitrary number to the nearest 100.

This is not just a game, Kazenori shared his passion for cars though Gran Turismo series. There is so much love in it.

Circuit de la Sarthe, at night and in rain. In prototypes/group c. That's it. It's the only game I know of that has it, and I'm consistently surprised how much terribleness I can tolerate just to get this. For example, I just accidentally hit 'exit' from a pause during a 24hr race - no "Are you sure?" dialog like I was expecting from B races, so 6 hours of work down the drain. I still took a deep breath and restarted.

Otherwise I'd throw it in the trash.

The fact that I don't have an xbox keeps me faithful to GT. When I played Forza though I thought it was better than GT because of the little things.

GT still needs a lot of work but I'll keep playing because I'm not forking out money for an xbox. GT is good enough, just.

How do you know Project CARS is good if it's not out yet?

From the gameplay i've seen i can say it's good.

Nobody serious about racing would religiously stick to GT and ignore other series.

Never did i say that but it's true when i say, in the name of many like me, when Gran Turismo is the only real racing game i play. Not because i don't like others but i only have a PS3 not a 360 or a gaming rig to be able to play most PC racing games.

I love the feeling of going fast and whooping everyone's ***! It's priceless (sorta) when I hear a squeaker crying that I am hacking and begs the host to kick me, but the host just laughs along with me .

Agree. It's good to try out the best ones, if you have the cash. See below.

I gave iRacing a serious try. It has Mid Ohio Raceway in it. I race in RL quite often at Mid Ohio. Thought it would be a nice way to practice left footed braking. I hated iRacing. The braking is the worst of any sim I have played. Modded my brake pedal, got advice on the settings and it was still ridiculously over programmed and hard to drive. To the point that it wasn't any fun. Plus, when you practice as a noob, every spin, every wheel off the track, every mistake lowers your ranking. I gave up after the first year. Yes, that's the biggest gripe I have about iRacing, $75 in (annual subscription, unlocked tracks/cars) and I don't own any part of the game. Gotta keep paying iRacing.

Plus, try to find a race lobby. I don't need to sit around waiting that long for race times. I can do that in the real world. With GT5, start it up and within a couple of minutes I can be on track with people from all over the world.

GT5 isn't perfect, but it's pretty damn good.

My reason for playing this game is because I love cars and I like to see their performances. Also the fact that I still don't have a car yet and with a steering while playing this game makes me feel like a driver and it also feels realistic, too. I also love to see it running fast hehe.

Well this is my first post in the GTPlanet forums since I left here like four years ago, back when I was massively into GT4. Feels good to be back. 👍

Well for me, GT just has a passion for racing and really just the cars in general that other games cannot match, as many others have said. Sure, it will need a few tweaks in the future but I'm sure Kaz will sort them out eventually. I've played GT since 1, and have owned 3, 4 and 5, and I have to say that there is no other racing game like it. I'm hugely into racing games and have been since I was 7 years old and GT is sill my favourite.

I just love the menu styles in all of the GT games. The menu music in GT1 is so unique and sort of mysterious sounding, I love it. GT2 had awesome things in it, like when you go to the dealership and see the "special models", I was always excited to see what they were. GT3 had some good tracks that I think should be included in GT5 as DLC, such as Complex String and Special Stage Route 11, and it had SSR5 in Wet, which for some reason isn't in GT5. And back when I first saw GT3 after having played 1 and 2 for a number of years I was blown away by the graphics. I mean they have heat haze in GT3, which they actualy can't do on the PS3.

It's just all the little things, as you say. I don't care about the flaws, I can get used to them and get over them. For someone with a passion for cars like mine there's nothing that beats the Gran turismo series.
