Please, keep the cars/tracks discussion out of this. This is not a wishlist. And no talk about standard cars either, please.

Don't get me wrong fellas, I absolutely love GT5, but there are quite a few things PD could do to make it more user friendly and more enjoyable.

So, I played for a couple of hours today, and altough I've been aware of these things ever since the game was released, they haven't really annoyed me until today for some odd reason. Here's what's on my mind:

  • Track selection both in online and practice mode is very non-user friendly in my opinion. Why didn't they stick to the Prologue style selection screen? Where you choose a track and then the layout/variation, this was much easier and quicker to navigate through.
  • Steering wheel and driver animation. Why is there no option to erase the driver from cockpot view, and make the in-game steering wheel rotation 1:1? Quite disturbing to see the horrible paddle shifting animations and the lack of rotation in sharp corners.

This is what I want:

I have played iRacing, and the cockpit view feels much more natural easier to use in iRacing thanks to the 1:1 rotation and the lack of driver. I'm not saying everyone prefers this, but there should be an option for it.

I'm sure that if PD wanted to, they could fix these things in a couple of hours or at least days.

Thoughts? Maybe got something else that bothers you?

THIS!! Dude, I'm so happy to see that somebody agrees with me. Can anyone explain why PD did this? I really hope GT6's track menu is better.

You prove good points, but I think PD only implemented the driver because to add to the realism, even though it reduced the cockpit experience as a result. So I agree with you there. And the track selection should be improved. I'd rather not navigate through an entire list of tracks just to choose Nordschleife, even if it's just seconds time lapse. Maybe have a bar in the middle of the screen adopting the layout on other track selection screens.

EDIT: Also, the only contradicting thing if you remove the driver is that 1) Gears and helmets will be proven useless, and 2) Photographs would look off.

Just two things really..

1. Online and offline physics don't feel the same for some reason

2. Mileage doesn't count online unless you finish a race, this is why I avoid trackdays for the most part, I'd like to have something to show for hours "wasted" online.. I know it sounds pathetic, but this one little thing that has always annoyed me.

Some cars not having working brake lights at night races when you aren't braking. For example Pontiac GTO 5.7. I wonder how many more cars are like this?

Finishing a seasonal race & the game dumping you back to the home/gt life page annoys the **** out of me. Why oh why cant we exit a race & stay on the seasonals page? Seriously how hard can it be?

I just thought of this too. My friend and I complain about this at least once a week lol.

I meant to remove the driver from cockpit view only. The driver should be visible in opponent's cars and in replays, just like in iRacing, and a bunch of other sims.

Here's one that bothers me a lot. I need to quit practice every single time in GT mode just because I want to change my car. Such a waste of time. Why can't we choose cars on the track?

this annoys me sooooooooo much too. I can deal with it, but its ssooo annoying. same with the dealerships, I want to be able to still be in the dealerships and buy more then one car then be booted out each time.

The shadows, the lack of rims for standard cars, the lack of events on A-Spec Mode, the unhability to use standards on Photomode... and the sound of some of the cars in the game... 👎

The physics differences between online and offline.

i would like to see the status of the motoroil in the garage and also go directly from the garage to the gtauto screen ( for the oil change )

One of the little things that annoy me is that there are some tracks in the game (Daytona Road Course comes to mind first. Monaco is another one. There are a few others...) that don't have distance markers going into turns.

I like to "hit my marks" and I use those distance markers going into turns as my indicators as when to hit the brakes and how hard to brake. When I'm driving down the backstretch at Daytona coming up to the bus stop chicane, there's no marker boards counting down 300 meters, 200 meters, 100 meters. For me, it's a shot in the dark every time. I can never get a solid feel on where to hit the brakes. Going into the first turn and coming out of the tunnel at Monaco are two others that are hard to judge with no distance markers.

PD really needs to get updated versions of those two tracks into the game via an update or DLC. If those tracks we're on par with the quality of Nurburgring and Spa, I'd drive them way more often.

Other little things that bug me... Passenger seats in RM cars. Really bad glare on some tracks using cockpit view with some cars.

That's all I can really think of. GT5 is a great game!

Yeh that too forgot about that 1

Flashing the high beams at lapped traffic does nothing for me, and even if it worked only premiums have true high beams.

After purchasing a car in the new car dealership, the game takes you back to the GT home screen. Annoying if you want to purchase multiple cars.

Actually, I think the game might do this in OCD and UCD also. Not sure.

When my personal BGM music stops playing and goes back to the annoying elevator music that the game plays at the GT Life menu. :grumpy:

I know what you mean, you should try to imitate real life drivers, when they don't have marks they use other objects as visual reference for instance a tree near the braking zone or a sponsor logo.. or whatever is useful to remind the best braking zone.
Try it and let me know.

yes btw, in all 3...

just thought of the fact (i still use the default bgm in menus) that i start to hate it when i go to GT auto or UCD that the music shifts to those 2 songs that keep on coming back because they're tied to that.

What would be better is that the music in main screen floats along with the black loading screen and keeps on playing in gt auto, etc.

Some songs are really chill to listen too, and i quite go to gt auto alot these days, keeps on interrupting the mood i'm into.

Still a little thing, but annoying...

I wish we could disable the steering wheel animation and only view the dash. I have a sheering wheel so I don't need to see and animation of it on the monitor. It was cool in the beginning and when using the controller but now I find it distracting and I wish that I could turn it off.

Having a premium/standards in the game. What's the point of giving me a standard enzo when I should have been given the premium? Also the terrible paint chips system made by a three year old.

only two things in GT5 really really annoy me,

1. The horrible red flashing gear change indicator. I don't know of a single person that thinks this is a good idea or who finds it that useful. It messes with your hotlapings and braking zones. I keep thinking that with every patch they will offer the opportunty to turn the damn thing off but every time I am thwarted !

2. The driver list on the HUD, I just want the option to turn all the HUD off apart from the rev counter and speedo on the standard cars. When in cockpit view on the standards that is all I want to see. I'm given the option to leave all the other HUD rubbish on and turn these off but not the other way around. That's mental !

Other than these annoying things I'm as happy as a speeder when a police car goes past him even faster !

@OP: I agree with the steering wheel animation. A 1:1 ratio plus a lack of driver option would seem to be a ridiculously simple update for PD to include. Obviously we can't have ghosts driving around everywhere but the drivers could only be seen outside the cockpit, inside he/she could be invisible.

It's probably been mentioned before but I'd like to see a better paint system. The current one as of now is a minor but noticeable flaw to the game.

Exactly my point. 👍

It may not seem like a big deal to most of you, but it would make a huge difference in my book. Even though I focus on the road ahead, I get disturbed by the bad shifting animations and lack of wheel rotation.

On top of that the replays would look much cooler and more realistic as well. Check out this replay from GTHD, when the ratio was still 1:1. If you look carefully you'll see how the driver looks like Keichi Tsuchiya himself turning that wheel.

13 years and 4 games later they still havent made a "buy all upgrades" button

Also, a "full restore" button for GT auto (car wash, oil change, engine & chassis rebuild)

these 2 things would save me SOO much time..
