Mods, sorry if this is in the wrong place, but it seems like something we need to work out before we start having race events and there's no GT5 race events sub-forum yet.

In short, how do we go about all getting together to race?

I did a bit of reading and experimenting last night trying to get in a room with GTP_Daniel and |||||||||||||.

It looks like there is no real invite system, so there are only two ways to join a specific room:

1) Have the host of the room in your friends list, then join their lounge from the community screen. This probably isn't practical for GTP as we just have too many people.

2) Enter the room number (the 20-digit number in the top left of the screen when you're in a room). This looks like the best option we have so far.

If a room is not set to fixed ownership it will stay in existence until everyone leaves - this means we could have rooms going all night, or perhaps even for weeks at a time, with people coming and going as they please. The downside of this is that people with NAT type 3 may have trouble connecting.

Rooms with fixed ownership require a host with a fast and stable connection and NAT type 2. I think these rooms close when the host leaves, but they would let people with NAT type 3 play.

For casual racing, I suggest we have a thread or forum (perhaps a password-protected forum) where events are set up and people can create rooms as required and post the room numbers. That way it would be easy for any member to find a room and join.

For organised competitions it might be worth selecting hosts with good bandwidth and setting up rooms with fixed ownership. That way the host can enforce the rules and easily kick random people who join, and NAT type 3 people would be able to connect.

Some people on the forum are saying kicking is possible, others are saying it isn't. If it is possible in open lobby rooms, then option 2 definitely sounds the way to go.

There is a vote to kick option in non-fixed ownership rooms and the room owner can kick in fixed ownership rooms. At least that's what the menus say - I thought it would be a bit rude to test it out ;)
