Back in the day, F1 drivers used to pick up other drivers stranded on the circuit and give them a lift back to the pits during the slowing down lap.

Phillipe Alliot stopped to pick up Stefan Johansson & Rene Arnoux after they had run out of fuel. Alliot then runs out of fuel, so Johansson sticks his thumb out 👍 and stops Nelson Piquet's Williams and all 3 of them hop aboard!

 That's brilliant. Shame they can't do it anymore. Ah, the sportsmanship in the olden days 👍

The Nigel Mansell + Ayrton Senna taxi was the best. Mainly because Senna is my favorite racer.

There's even a 1:18 for it!

 I agree.

F1 drivers today would probably end up teasing each other.

"Hey Kimi, need a ride? Oh, too slow, c'mon try again."

Haha how cool was that!

Hahhahhah.. that was mad. Never watch indi but thats awesome.

Whats 'indi' got to do with this? This is Formula 1.

I wonder why F1 sidecar racing never took off. I've never seen this clip before but I have seen Senna and Mansell.

I think the last time this happened was with Coulthard and Mika. Can’t remember the year.

Haha thanks for that link, Senna wanted no part of what the Marshall had to say, were they penalised for that?

LOL I had never seen this one before, I do remember Senna and Mansell and more recent ones were Alesi and Schumi at Montreal in '95 and Fisico with Schumi at Hockenheim in '97. I think team bosses don't want their drivers to do it anymore, Mansell got a lot of criticism for taking Senna on board, claiming Senna would have been able to see how the Williams functioned by having a look in the cockpit. Senna claimed he didn't even think about doing that though and regretted it a bit. Don't forget these cars are worth millions and each small part can cost a couple of thousands of Euros, so it wouldn't surprise if drivers are not allowed to do it anymore.

btw didn't Schumi take Mika back to the pits at Barca in 2001 after Mika retired whilst leading on the last lap?

Nelson Piquet picks up Johansson, Arnoux, and Alliot at the end of the 1986 Mexican GP.

The Mansell/Senna link is from the 1991 British GP.

It wasn't a marshall. It was a spectator on the track invasion that always happened after Mansell won at Silverstone.

Ah yeah I see, I didn't pay enough attention to the guy the first time I watched and assumed.
