hey guys, i'm just wondering if anyone uses the new AVG 7.5 here. if so, can anyone tell me the difference from the previous version?

i have to get my friend a good free antivirus and he said he wants to use the new AVG, but he told me to get some info about it first.

thanks,

Law

thanks, but my friend wants to know on how the new AVG operates and if there's a difference from the previous version :)

oh, ok. but has anyone here used or runs the new AVG 7.5 yet and knows the performance compared to Avira AntiVir? (I use Avira, but my friend says AVG is better....)

I think Law93 is looking for some information specifically about the new AVG, not its competitors.

However, I must say that this is the wrong place to find information. It's difficult to obtain a balanced review and accurate information since most people prefer what they are currently using.

I suggest looking through some official reviews of the product and looking for information of its features on the company's website.

I've just upgraded to AVG 7.5 from the old one, 7.0 was it?

I haven't run a scan yet, but I can expect it to pick up all of the old viruses as well as it did before, plus a whole bunch of new ones and do it better than previously.

On the surface the only differences I can tell you about are a smartened interface. Everything still works the same, the buttons are in the same place and all of that, but it seems like it's been softened - most likely in preparation for the pending release of Vista I would think.

Better looking, but it's not vastly different.

Even if you do install 7.0, service for it runs out in Janurary so he'll have to upgrade to 7.5 then anyway. May as well do it sooner than later?...

It's much better looking, and more secure from my previous experience with it. The boot scanner is also very good as it scans during bootup before the viruses activate. Then I switched to Nod32, which is worth every penny IMO.

so does avast pick up more?

In my time of using it and AVG, I'd say Avast! picked up more threats. It also has several real-time monitors, though I think AVG did have something of the sort, I felt that they didn't do much.

Just so you know, AVG is discontinuing it's free service as of Jan. 17th. So, either you'll need to buy it, or get a different Anti-Virus.

actually i think they're just going to discontinue the 7.1 version on that date.

anyways, i think its just going to be avast!

AVG automatically upgraded to 7.5 without even asking me, but it's a lot tidier than the previous, and a considerable speed difference aswell:)

i'm scanning right now
