"Dune" is a classic. I think this is the only David Lynch movie I've really really liked. I rate this movie right up there with the likes of Fifth Element and Star Wars. "Dune" DVD was released while back, but it didn't have much of extra features, and there was only the original version of the film. It had gone out-of-print, and the new loaded version was supposed to come out, complete with the anamorphic widescreen(for the HDTV owners), and with both the theatrical & extended cut of the film. Supposedly, Lynch and the studio couldn't agree on the extended version of the film, causing the delay. I just found out that it's due out tomorrow(1/31/06 - Tuesday).

Here's the basic storyline, if you are not familiar(taken from amazon.com):
Tagline: A world beyond your experience, beyond your imagination.

Plot Outline: In the distant future, a man appears who may be the prophet that a long-suffering galaxy has been waiting for.

Plot Synopsis: In the far future, a duke and his family are sent by the Emperor to a sand world from which comes a spice that is essential for interstellar travel. The move is designed to destroy the duke and his family, but his son escapes and seeks revenge as he uses the world's ecology as one of his weapons.

Looks like only thing it's missing is the DTS. I have never seen the extended cut, I hope it's good! :D

I got a Dune DVD free with a paper the other day. It's just the film (no special features), but it should be good. I might watch it at the weekend.

Whoah... extended version? I'm definitely checking this one out.

I have the TV Movie version, great because it's a little more faithful to the book, and more fleshed out, but the production design and feel of the original version are still a lot better. :)

Sandworms rock. Nuff said.

I will definitely be picking this up.

yeh i own it on VHS :scared: and i would like it on DVD, its only £8 for the special edition, dont know why it so special though from the bog standard version, its got no special features and only DD and no DTS still its only eight smackers.

BTW its an awsome film, did you know that H.R. Giger was contracted to do the worm and set designs but the film fell from production and then was picked up again but Gigers work wasnt used.

How does Children Of Dune fit into all this? I watched Dune a long time ago and don't really remember it all that well, except that I didn't really like it too much. But I'm sure there has to be something worthwhile in it, since so many people love it...

How does Children Of Dune fit into all this?

Children of Dune is the third book in the series (of six).

There are two movie versions of the first book.. there's the 1984 film mentioned here, and there's the TV miniseries from 2000, usually identified as "Frank Herbert's Dune", since it follows the book a LOT closer than the '84 version does, but suffers from a lack of production value and really off-the-wall cinematography.

The miniseries/movie Children of Dune is a sequel to the 2000 miniseries Dune, and combines the stories of the second and third books in the series (Dune Messiah and Children of Dune). That's why the first part of Children of Dune (miniseries) seems so different than the other two parts, because it's based on the second book, Dune Messiah.
