Whaaat?? I hear you CRY!.....

Sony has announced a third incarnation of the ever popular PS2, the SCPH-9000 is still the same size as the PS Two but its now lighter (850 grams to 720 grams) and AC adapter is now built in so its a nice, all in one, easy to carry package. It also has updated hardware and technology and probably software. I guess they still want to add to the 120 million units sold worldwide score :scared:

You may be saying Ive got / Im getting a PS3.. whats the point in this..

Well they have chosen to do this mainly because of the lack of backwards compatibility on the new Playstation 3 models which are rolling out so if you want to still buy new or play your old PS2 games, you didn't by an early PS3 (with BC) and your PS2 is clapped out then this is the one for you!

Currently there are only very small low res photos available but you can already see the style has changed a bit, it looks very clean and even thinner... You can also buy a stand for it.

It comes in Black, White and Silver and has been confirmed for Japan and EU markets but not America yet...

It costs $139 which is the same as the old PS Two......

So I guess this one is called the PS2 Three... :sly:

So what do you guys think?

Slim, is nice but overheats..

White Please:) i wanna go away from the overused black products

Why?! They should have just lowered the price of the outgoing model. That would have been far more appreciated than a built in pencil sharpener or whatever it is they've added.

OMFG!!!!!! Another re-incarnation of that thing.

I hadn't heard about it untill just now. I prefer the old ones because to silm it down they took out the fan and therefore as someone stated they heat up. I can leave my ps2 on all day and not worry bout it.

They SHOULD have just kept backwards compatibility in the damn PS3...

Yes actually xbox 360 also didn't go backwards with all games. Xbox made some pretty bad games though shame aswell coz i have 4 and a 360.

Video games consoles should be like cars. Have one model, the first, then bring one out every year that has more graphical/computing power - and an updated design that looks modern, but is still reminiscent of the original.

you mean they can't play ps2 games anymore? 40 and 80gb?

the 20 and 60 can play previous PS games? no?

Woooooowwwwwww whats the point! I had my ps2 for three yrs now its the first one and it still runs flawless and i play it alot .Idk why they come out with new ones. Their all the same !

i use to have a PS2 (slim) but i sold it so i could save up more money for PS3... now since i have some money im thinking of getting it for this room. so i can watch DVDs.. and play a PS2 game on it as well...

so i hear its not comming to USA? :( too bad.. i would love to get the white one..

Another peta version of the PS2 huh? I still have an old fat PS2. It's still a great platform. I've noticed more problems coming from the PS3 and the 360 than ever coming from the PS2. Things like "the red ring of death."

I just bought my first PS2 this past Thursday and just finished hooking it up to my internet connection. I still can't afford teh PS3 and have bought 14 PS2 games in the past year before I even bought the console. My 18 year old daughter moved back a year ago and brought her PS2 with her that her Dad had bought her.All she had was the console and I used my stuff to hook it up from my old Playstation1. She moved out this past week forcing me to either buy a new one or go without Gran Turismo 4 and TOCA 3...NOOOOOOOOOOOOO:eek:

I debated on buying a used full size like she has or the slim and buy new. I bought the slim because I figured for 10 to 15 bucks more I could have the warrantee. My wife works at WalMart so with my discount it cost $110. I had debated this pretty hard because I like the idea of having a harddrive and I noticed the lack of a fan right off the bat. To be honest I had never even seen a slim until I pulled mine out of the box and I must sy I have mixed feelings. I am still debatting returning it and buying a used one off ebay. I just don't want to be without a unit for a week or two while waiting for the new one to ship in the mail. I could always mount a fan in mine I just have misgivings about cutting a hole in the case and soldering into its power source to install the fan.Even though I know how to do thias kind of mod professionally it still will void the warrantee...which sorta defeats the purpose....
