Are you kidding?
I saw an XC70 earlier, and it looked massive!

Anyone had a similar experience of being surprised by the size of the XC70?

New XC70, parked on Mt. Kenya for size comparison.

It is truly huge and makes me wonder why it's so close in size to the XC90.

Also, the above 3 posts are useless.👎

So does that mean you are replying to your own topic rather than the useless posts? ;)

I must admit I can't quite see why this is here, in Premium exclusivity, rather than just the General Automotive sections. It probably wouldn't fail over there, but you couldn't have expected much interest here :p

Anyway...

'Truly huge'? Meh. Is it really that much bigger than, say, an A6 Allroad? And if you think it's close to the XC90, look what BMW have done with the X3 and the X5.

I don't think making the '70 and '90 'close' in size is a real problem for Volvo, because the XC70 is pitched at people who want an estate car that thinks it can go off-road, whereas the XC90 is aimed at people who want a car with a higher driving position, and an imposing (and spit-attracting) road presence, which also thinks it can go off-road. I reckon there won't be many people stuck between choosing an XC70 or an XC90, unless they can't decide whether they want to be more discreet or go the whole hog. It's more image than size.

What, a three inch lift on a V70 makes it HUGE?

...I better tell my Dad to sell the S.S. Avalanche...

Metrics are for losers. You can just say four inches...

:D 👍

The Q7 is bigger.

Much bigger. I'd swear I saw one of these behemoths run down an articulated lorry.

By the way, your illustration is a gross exaggeration of size.

Of the Empire State Building.

Have you seen the new one in real life?

I know the changes aren't enormous, but it was a pretty big car to begin with.

It dwarfed a Xsara Picasso next to it.:scared:

So, Europeans are losers? :boggled:

Yes, the Non-Anglos.

===

I'm just picking on ya'all, its not a big deal. I just don't feel like learning the metric system on top of the American Standard...

Well, you don't learn the metric system. You learn to multiply by 10, and I think even Poly Sci majors can handle that math

It doesn't look huge to me, but alas, I do live in the US where everything is huge...

OH YEAH! That's what she said....ohhhhh!

Sorry anyways I do agree the car is rather big, which is a problem with current cars, they are all really big and heavy.

I don't know I would have to see them next to one another to really say for sure, but the numbers are pretty similar.

XC70:
Exterior length 190.5"
Exterior body width 75.8"
Exterior height 63.1"
Wheelbase 110.8"

Outback:
Exterior length 189.0"
Exterior body width 69.7"
Exterior height 63.2"
Wheelbase 105.1"

Maybe it's the shape that gives the illusion if it being so much bigger.

Probably. As I agree with the Q7 looking even bigger. It's one of the largest cars I've ever seen, other than a Hummer H2...

You've never seen an Excursion or regular Hummer before have you?

He lives in the UK... so I doubt it.

My dad has an Outback Wagon, a 2005. Doesn't seem that big to me. Compared to my MR2, yes, it looks large, but compared to an Excursion, its tiny :p

👍 He speaks the truth, I rarely if ever see Q7's anywhere around here but when I do it always surprises me that a German car company made it.
