The one and only Lotus Elise

Professional Lotus Elise Tournament is rapidly becoming one of my favourite series, but I need some help tuning my Elise. Also, which is better to buy, the regular Elise or the Motorsport version? I bought the Motorsport, tuned it to the max, and then tried fiddling with the suspension, limited slip, and brake balance controller and entered the series. I spent the entire first race (Cote d'Azur) battling a regular Elise for 5th place. Anyone got any ideas, particularly tuning specifics?

well.. the key to the elise is being comfortable w/ its twitchy handling. DO you find yourself sliding much? You want to reduce you sliding towards the exit of turns as much as possible while still taking advantage of the amazing turning ability of the motorsport elise. The game's pretty tough through the 1st few turns but after your tires warm up they should dissapear in your rear view mirror... All i remember doing to the motorsport was lowering the suspension and increasing HP and adjusting gear ratios...I havent seen u drive so i can only guess... Do you find yourself falling out of powerband? Maybe ur just not familiar enough w/ the car. Its a car thats meant to be driven w/ finesse. It doesnt have enough torque to oversteer alot and expect to get uber fast laps. But That was my issue when 1st driving the car: understanding that the its best to never break traction except on really windy turns.

well racing by yourself isn't as fun as racing against someone/thing else. for tuning all you really can do is just adjust each setting and see how it effects the car then find out how things work together. i dont have time for it really so i don't bother tuning my car. besides, everybody drives differently, someone else's settings won't neccessarely help you.

The main problem I am having is actually understeer. I can't seem to slow down fast enough to the suggested gear for a turn, and even when I do manage to get down enough, the car likes to hit the wall, and the AIs just come right up my tail and bump me out of the way. When I finally get my footing again, the car won't accelerate fast enough to catch the other cars, even though I have set the gear ratios to a few points above the sportiest setting.

I do love driving the car though, and it feels as though I'm just off something minor which will make a huge difference when corrected, and then the Elise will dance for me.

sounds like something seat time can correct. maybe ur breaking too hard or something. i've never had an much of an understeer problem w/ the elise. i think i might have even added some chamber, i dont remember...

I dunno, maybe tapping the e-brake could help, although it is ill-advised, due to the short wheelbase. :indiff:

how high is your ASM and TCS? You should be able to keep most of the settings stock or tqeak them just a bit to get it to run faster than the others. I remember the Pro elise tournement really well since I just finished it about 3 or 4 days ago. If your falling really far behind then it may have to do with your settings.

Since you have ur MS elise maxed out let me tell you a quick summary of my settings and maybe trying running with those and see if that helps at all

I think I kept the spring rate the same which I probably should have pumped up a bit but its at
F 10.3 and R 12.5

Height 82 for both
and everything else is the same as stock but the Stabilizers which is 6 and 5...I like them a bit strong

for braking I have a pretty high setup because I brake VERY late but that varies from driver to driver I am running mine at 19 and 15

The gearing is a bit weird but I like out I have it

Auto Set to 31

then move
1st 1.021
2nd 2.014
3rd 1.433
4th 1.069
5th 0.806
6th 0.626

and final at 4.2

I have my ASM at 7 because I found out when I had my ASM off or lower than that I have to pit in much more often. Again, I brake VERY late and turn hard. You may consider turning it off or maybe at 3 or 4?
TCS at 6....again to save the tires

I was using medium on both front and rear but you can get away with a better tire on the front if you wish

Try some of everyones suggestions out and see how things work and let us know how it turns out

Try upping the brake balance to 14 or so until the car seems so stop quicker. Also try gtvault.com if you are still stumped with settings.

i can understand using traction control 1 or 2. but... ASM??? are u serious? lol That will make u understeer even more.. and w/ my breaks set at 9 i break just fine, but my brother ups the break balance also cus he breaks harder than i do.. its his style. so like the guy said before me try upping ur break balance. I'm a smooth breaker though... so i only need 9

I have finally got the car more or less to where it needs to be in terms of handling. I am using super slicks so I don't need to pit, and though it's a bit of hell through the Cote d'Azur, I managed. The only problem is that I start off in 6th, and have to spend the entire first 8 or 9 laps gradually advancing to first, and the first place car NEVER PITS, so if I don't catch him I have no other chance to win the race!

yeah. i always use super slicks or plane slicks. even on short races w/ tire wear just so i dont have to worry about pushing to hard. And if the race is really short but has tire wear, do some drifting to get em nice and warmed up :)
