Considering how terrible Bioshock was, Valve didn't have to try too hard.

Orange box is brilliant. It's not just one game.

Portal - Brilliant and innovative puzzler involving portal technology (Prey used it, it sucked).

Team Fortress TWO - Legacy lives on.

Episode 2 - need i say more?

Gonna get it next week. Can't be arsed to D/L off of Steam. :)

And only about $55 AUD with the current exchange rate. What a bargain!

I got it for $20 at Best Buy (long story), and it all looks great on my PC. This is the first PC game that isn't a RTS that I've bought in a long, long, long time. I've invested about an hour in Portal thus far, and its a lot of fun. Some of the puzzles make you think a bit more than you want, but its good nevertheless. I'm planning on getting in some TF2 tomorrow, hopefully, as my skills are a bit rusty.

...And Half-Life 2?

I played through some of it on XBOX, so I'm eager to get back into it on PC and "do it the right way."

portal is awesome, and hilarious. Such strange humor. I loved the ending song.

There have been a couple puzzles thus far in Portal that really pissed me off because I couldn't quite figure them out at first. It isn't as though they're hard, they're just more difficult than what you would expect from time to time. Either way, its been a good way for me to warm-up my PC shooter skills, as I plan to get into HL2 and TF2 later this week.

...Although I need to stop having friends over, going to work, or spending time with my Girlfriend to get anything done these days...

The last level was awesome. I too loved the humor. I laughed pretty hard at a few of the things that lady says to you. I'm trying to play through the bonus maps. Having a bit of trouble with that advanced one with the turrets.

Nice box set. They even let me 'gift' the games in the set I already had to friends. My son got my HL2 and EP1 as a gift from dad. :D

The large room full of turrets?

That was ass easy, as soon as you portal behind one of the turrets it's easy as hell.

Yeah its easy as hell on the normal game. I'm talking about the advanced one where the turrets are locked inside cages so you can't simply knock them over.

Hey, quick question - if I get Orange Box, is Counter Strike Source a mod for HL2, or do I still have to purchase it these days? Kinda curious about that bit.

Yeah, not sure.. When I bought HL2 back in the day, it came with all the 'Source' versions. It seems that if it did come with CS:S that they would list it as additional promo material. I know it wasn't offered as a 'gift' like the other games I already owned.

AFAIK, you would need to purchase CS:S separate from the Orange Box.

When I originally bought HL2 it came with CS:S and HL2 Deathmatch.

Want help, or do you just want some sympathy and encouragement?

I can't wait for custom portal maps, it's gonna be KILLER.

There have been a bunch of people asking for custom maps so I thought I'd make a post linking the ones I like the most and that are in some state of completion.

My favorite so far has been a test map by RenStrike of the Steam forums.

This is the download site.

Updates can be found at this Steam thread.

Another one that I like by Spacemonkey, also of the Steam forums.

Download site.

Forum thread for updates

I don't like this map, but it's done and complex so I thought I'd post it for you guys to play with. Credit goes to Pixartist.

Lastly (at least for this post) is a map by Oregon and is another that I like.

Download.

Thread.

I hope you guys enjoy those four. I'll see about adding more to this thread if ones that I like happen to pop up on the Steam forums. :)

It's starting to get hard now, I just need more time, but ill get it.

Im playing on the lowest settings right now on my laptop, but once I get my desktop up and running, ill see how I can do

I preordered the Orange Box.

I played it basically ten minutes after the content was unlocked on Steam at midnight Central time.

I beat Portal in about two hours, no exiting, no walkthroughs, just using my head.

Yeah, level 16 was fun, and easy. picking up the little robots and tossing them into other little robots was fun.

Im on level 18 right now, about half way through it

Reviving the thread with this very post -

Does anyone know where one can find said song - and not in a youtube or the like quality kinda way..

I'll be more than happy to pay for it - That is Excellent - Reminded me of the end credits in RHPS.

Revival.
I got The Orange Box for Christmas - And I'm glad I did! I've never played anything from the Half-Life series, and this freakin' rules! I'm working through the Water Hazard part of the Canals section.

Play Portal - NOW ! :-)

Portal is easily worth the price of the Orange Box by itself... (Am I repeating myself here ?)
