The PC racing genre needs a serious kickstart.

I've been looking for PC racing games that are played by quite a lot of people online, but so far, I haven't found one.

Juiced, GTR, Need for Speed Underground 2, Colin Mc Rae 2005, good games but not heavily populated online speaking. Anyways, for those gtplaneteers who play online racing games, recommend me one, any one and I will buy it (with the only condition that you play it online).

Hopefully, my Logitech DFP will get some use.

Live For Speed
www.liveforspeed.com
It's free ("demo" version...not all the courses and only 3 cars and its like $48 for the full version which gets you all the cars [around 18] and all the courses [like 5 or 6 courses with 3 or 4 variations or more to each track])

Works perfectly with the DFP and is heavily populated online.

The demo online usually is just drifting and free laping, but the actual full version has a lot of actual races. 👍

i think Live for Speed is the best for people playing all the time.

like integra said, if you want real online races, buy the full game.

Yeah for online races Live for speed is the best, GTR is the best offline but you said you wanted online so get the full version of LFS S2 and you can race people like me :D.

No GTR's not bad, but for a quick online fix it's not that great. Live for speed on the other hand can have you in a race in no time be it a quick race or if you've entered a league. Overall I like GTR more than LFS, but I play games offline more than online.

I used to play FlatOut online (TOS). It was fun while it lasted. FlatOut is just pure fun. You can crash into others, go for the win or just have fun.

I think that there will be less talk about pc games once the PS3 (GT5 or 6) is out. Maybe due to the powerfull PS3, all the other sim develpers decide to create sims for the PS3. Maybe with stable online possiblilities and stuff.
GTR2, GT Legends2, GT5 on the PS3 with the current graphics level, mmmmmm, nice . I'll probably never buy any pc game anymore. Always have to upgrade you pc, way too expensive.

Only one problem. My speed7 pedals are not compatible with PS2, maybe the will be with the PS3???

I'm kinda hoping for that to happen :D.
I'd love to play games like GTR but I'm afraid my PC isn't up for a heavy task like that.

I've read something on gamespot about an upcoming XBOX version of GTR,
but I really don't understand why they're doing that since the XBOX doesn't
support any descent steering wheels.

sofar the most intense sp racing i've had is in RBR. after the 10 minute japan stage my hands are all sweaty if i go all out. :) there's also multiplayer for that but the cars never make physical contact. they just pass through eachother like ghosts.

Requardless, anyone who owns a wheel should own rbr. its freaking awsome. best rally sim by far. 👍

I tried the demo, and it was great but when I went to play it online, most of the people would just be free lapping.

Any others? There can't be just one!

Ive been playing LFS for the last couple days and had lots of great races with fellow GTP'ers.

Yes, and you can also skip the realistic handling (the only sims in consoles, F355 Challenge, RBR and Enthusia weren't big hitters)...

It's better to keep them for the PCs, where I can add clutch, shifters and the like and now that I'm driving a realistic sim, not an half-ar...ed arcade game

GT4 has realistic handling, what GT4 lacks in an option anywhere in the game to provide, realistic power delivery. It's like your driving with some kind of traction control or a throttle help option thats always on., the handling's good, not perfect, not the best, but still very good, it's the power delivery. Imagine GT4 with LFS S2's physics and Toca Race driver 2's damage and AI, now that would be a damn good game.

hehe. the nurburgring would seem much more terrifying driving it in LFs :D. GT4's alot easier to drive on the limit. hopefully gt5 will be harder and wont compromise physics.
My hands should be sweaty after driving the nurburgring in GT4 with the m3 but my heartbeat is just fine and my hands are dry and not blistered.

there should be challenge in driving the car itself. More challenge=more pleasure.

the i'm still waiting for the nurburgring to come out for rfactor... the guy making it told me it was almost finnished.... a month ago. it should be really good though. he says he's trying to make it extremely accurate.

There's more to that than "realistic power delivery". Where GT4 really lacks is in the tyre model and, in a way as a result, a better (more realistic) braking (we could say that the rest is more or less spot on..... except some cars gears :nervous: ). Why do I say that GT4 tyre model is irrealistic? For one, the tyres not only have too much grip, there's also the problem that they degradate themselves rather quickly...
At LeMans they can spend 3 hours with the same set of tyres, yet in GT4, in the sportscars, even in very hard, 20 minutes and you're finished   Call it realistic......

Good point, I forgot about the tyre's not being that great.

That's the thing. Even if you have a great car model simulating every kind of suspension, aerodynamics, etc if your tyre model is flawed (like in GT4), you won't get a great driving (or racing or whatever) simulation...

(As an analogy, think about F1. Even if Ferrari had this year the best car (which we know they didn't), they wouldn't have much chance as Bridgestone tires were sh.... But, if Bridgestone tires were much superior than Michelin, maybe Ferrari would have a better chance against better cars like the McLaren and the Renault)

lots of poo games claim ot have realistic physics like the toca series and colin mcrae... so i'll have to wait and see for myself

Gabkicks
another racing game by the same guys who made gtr and gt legends.
Huh?? rFactor develped by GTR and GTL develper?? I don't thinks so. :)
Simbin got the new graphics engine from the rFactor guys but simbin did not develp rFactor.

well they use similar engines. :P PC racing genre is alive and well. i just entered a league today in lfs and now i'm preparing for the race tomorrow. tuning my car, trying to figure out what fuel/ tires to use and laptime/pitting strategy 👍 I want to make a good impression on the rest of the guys in the gp.
