As we all know, it is quite easy to win a race by selecting an appropriate (or inappropriate as the case may be) car... but in order to find the 'Perfect Race', I find that I have to go to alot of trouble to find the right settings for a particular series.

I would like to know what selection of car, settings, and series (etc.) that make 'the Perfect Race'..., and perhaps some examples of how tight the races are...?

My example:-

The Pennzoil Nismo, no turbo, Slick (Hard) racing tyres (i.e one pitstop in 15 laps), Professional League Japanese GT Series...

With this lot, I find that I start slowly and can lose up to 15 seconds in the first 2 or 3 laps, (cold tyres).. but then come back steadily... each car has one pitstop in a 15 lap race, and find that I can only win a race if I can do the entire race without a single spin...

Please let me know if anyone has a 'perfect formula' they enjoy...

My best races came from the endurance races Seattle 100, Trial Mountain 2 Hour Challenge and Rome 2 Hour Challenge. I ran these in a stock Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V-Spec II with T2 tires. In the first 10-20 laps i would be behind untill they started pitting but i won the races by about 30 seconds, so it was't very close.
 
I just had a quite enjoyable Polyphony Digital Cup win by ~8s from the evil Nissan Z Concept at SSR5 Reverse.

He pitted on laps 6, 12 and 18. When he came out from his 2nd stop I managed to get about 5s ahead of him, and could block him on the straight, but pull away through the rest of the track. When he did pass me on lap 16 he could only pull about 6s out before he pitted again.

My steed? Honda Integra Type-R on T2s and T3s.
 
Formula GT Championships with about any F1 car, after a while you will pull ahead alot, but in the start you are neck and neck. i would say the F688/S would be pretty equal with the others.
 
test course in the F1 challenge using the F090/s, that was the most hair-raising race I've ever done. Just the thought of losing after doing 30 something laps is all that's on your mind and once you finish 1st by 1.823s the biggest wave of relief hits you....good ish

I agree. I used the F090/S in the Like The Wind race. It was difficult as all hell. The other cars had much greater max speeds. Playing with cars that are much faster than yours is quite challenging. There really are no turns to where you can gain back some ground.
 
How about the Tommy Kaira ZZS (not the Rocket sled/Race car ZZII) in the Polyphont cup?

I've started some testing on this last night, and running T4 tires, I can make it 10 ten laps before I pit. Granted, It took me 7 laps to qualify on the pole against the 350Z, but I think an overall series win is possible. Sweeping it might be tough.

The other Underdog win I'm planning for is the R390 Rce car in the F1 championship.

I did manage to sweep the PD Cup in a Lancer Evo VI on T2's.

Take an hour or so and review my compendium, as I managed to win just barely in most of my races from 0 to 100%. Der Alta's Compendium

I'm quite interested to hear that the Test Course race (In the F1 Championship) can be won in the F090s. Hmmm...

Having just come up against the little bugeye ZZS in the Pro Spyder & Roadster, I have to say, that sounds very interesting, AO. If you can take the pole with it, you can take the series with it against the 350Z.

Welcome to GTP, Touring Mars! Thanks for an interesting thread. I see by your win ratio (remarkably similar to mine) that you enjoy a close race. For the Pro All-Japan, I ran a stock Viper Oreca on T3s with no backup power. Although the races were not always neck-and-neck, it was very exciting and an enjoyable drive. The Test Course epic was very exciting, won by 0.2xx" after 30 minutes.

If you're located in Edinburgh, I suggest you look up fellow Scot Giles Guthrie, who's a regular on these boards. Again, welcome aboard!

Sadly my info is a bit out of date already, and I now live in London, but still have a steady win ratio of about 60%, and yes, I love a close race too! :D To me, a 100% win ratio means that one is missing the point of the game :banghead: , so hats off to you!

Like most people, I prefer not to commit to an endurance race unless I know I am going to win, and have yet to summon up the guts (and time) to really take it to the limit. Therefore, any formulae/set-ups for a really close enduro would be most interesting... at present, I think my closest was finishing the Rome enduro on the same lap as the P2 car, but can't remember my set up...:rolleyes:
