This week's theme in detail, brought to you by last week's winner, Speedracer8218:

"I always preferred when auto makers gave their cars names instead of letter/numbers combos, it gives the cars more character in my opinion. So this week I would like you to find the best name given to a car and make a good case for it with a beautiful photo.”

CARS: Any with a name
LOCATIONS: Any
PHOTOTRAVEL: Yes
UNIQUE RESTRICTIONS: has to be an official name given to the car by the factory so no nicknames like Bug or Evo please

Please, ensure you read and understand all requirements for this competition. Failure to follow the rules may result in disqualification. If you have questions, start a convo with me.
This Thread will answer many possible questions you may have.

  • It is recommended you host your image on ImageShack, Photobucket, or Flickr.
  • Not sure how to post a thumbnail or preview image? Read this sticky!
  • Please use a clickable-preview to full-size, not a separate text link for it;
it makes poll creation much easier!
  • No post-GT6 editing, besides proportional resizing and rotating, is allowed.
  • One entry per user. It must be your own work, and never previously used in a comp.
  • Do not ask other users to choose your entry.
  • Absolutely no hybrid, hacked cars, or cars obtained through such means.
  • Mark your FINAL ENTRY clearly, with red text. On H2H weeks, which side, as well.
Unsure how to? Copy and paste the following:
    FINAL ENTRY
  • You may change your entry once. Do it clearly; edit out your previous entry, and
either post the new one in a new reply, or in place of the original.
  • When submitting, use either a thumbnail or a preview image, linked to the full-sizer.
  • Preview images can not exceed 500 pixels in either direction.
  • A preview image must be representative of the full-size image. Do not add effects to it.
  • Do not post "Honourable Mentions" or outtakes - just your Final Entry, that's all.
  • Winner gets to choose the following week's theme, as well as the Top 30. Every fourth
week, the poll will be H2H style: entries must choose a "team", leading to two 15-picture,
4-day polls. The winners from each faces off in a final 48 hour poll.
  • Winners cannot enter in their own theme!
  • The Host may ask for the original image and it must be submitted if so.
It's recommended to save the original image (preferably in-game) until week's ends.
Failure to follow these rules will result in ignored entries and/or disqualification!

I have a genuine question: the rules state any car with a name, and that's fine, but what about the McLaren F1?

This week's judge feels that a name - an actual name that is - gives the car more character in his opinion, but in the case of the F1 you could very well argue that the "F1" is synonymous with McLaren's F1 (heh, see?!) efforts: the pinnacle of what can be offered, thus that letter/number combination is its character.

I'm not trying to sway a rule change or even loosening the reigns in any way, shape or form, it was simply something that came to mind and would have bugged the crap out of me had I not asked.

My personal take on it is that while yes, the name is definitely meant to draw up comparisons to their racing division in your head, "F1" is still not a name so much as a reference, or I suppose an acronym more accurately. Personally, if it were my theme, I wouldn't accept the F1 as an entry. But it is a good point...

@Speedracer8218, what say you? ;)

Acronyms! That's the word I was trying to think of

Well Although I do agree with what @Terronium-12 is saying about the F1, It is an acronym (as @SlipZtrEm mentioned) that represents the company's history like Jaguar's XK or Porsche's 911. What I was looking for in this comp was an actual word that was given to a car instead of numbers/letters combos that only makes sense to gearheads familiar with that car's history.

I think Ferrari understands what I mean by giving a car some "character" as they give their cars both. Although all prancing horses have acronyms that dates back to their early days, they also started giving them names as well (although I can't pin point exactly when that started, Testarossa maybe?).

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough :D

How about those rebadged from letter/number combos to names? (i.e. MX-5 = Miata / [Eunos] Roadster)

Must the cars be completely stock visually or can they have aero kits and such?
