While A-Speccing the 1000km endurance race at Suzuka, I made the mistake of running my Veyron on racing softs which were by this point a little past their prime. Upon realising that my tyres now had all the grip of plaited straw, I made an attempt to enter the pitlane and inevitably lost traction on the final right-hander as you approach the main straight. This sent me into quite a ferocious spin. Clearly, this wasn't good. I somehow managed to hit the pitlane not only at warp factor nine but sideways, and right into the domain of the pitlane Bob...
The car eventually settled sideways between the two barriers, where the pitlane AI proceeded to use first and reverse in a desperate bid to free itself... FOR FOURTEEN MINUTES!!

I had led the race since the very beginning and now on lap 131 of 172 was stuck in the pitlane with nowhere to go, watching my epic lead dwindle to nothing as the remaining cars unlapped themselves one by one. Cue a restart and some heavy blasphemy!!!

It seems to be the norm for almost all racing games, why won't they allow you to drive the pitlane?

I can manage without much trouble to drive round a track with other cars on it well over 150mph but when I need to pit at 50mph I need my hand held!

Because they know the first thing most kids would do is try to slam straight into their pit crew.

Racing regulations require that 50mph in the pits for safety reasons.

LOL on a bad day I woulda hit them myself! I can see their faces as im aproaching at 150mph like this :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: :scared:

I sure Volvo knows that, the question is why aren't we allowed to drive and maintain 50 in the pit lane but are fully trusted to drive 5x that speed out on track,
Its a racing game cliche at this point.

Also if its gonna be so strict on those racing regulations then where are the other racing regulations(or is it just a 'driving simulator' again when it comes to those?

isn't it pretty hard to do a steady 50 in for example a minolta with a controller?

You could in theory, drive into the pit lane and stop after you lap the other cars a few times. when the other cars come in to pit they are blocked and cant go anywhere. The clock for endurance races keeps ticking away and you can now leave your ps3 and car with the hand brake engaged.

Well most Race Cars IRL have buttons to do it for them, so using a button on the DS3 would actually be accurate. F1 2010 Almost had it but the car was still 'on rails'.

It'd be an easy enough thing to set up to give penalties to drivers that dont keep under the pit speed limit if pit stops were manual, I mean almost every PC racer ive played (and theres a few) you had to pit yourself rather then be babysat

Why didn't you wait for the other AI drivers to pit? They might have punted you free.

Oh I did, I was counting on it and sat there for fourteen minutes but they never pitted in. Pitlane Bob decided after almost fifteen minutes, his tactics of driving into both barriers weren't working and he finally idled it out :dunce:

lmao i had this same problem on the same track, i nearly missed the pitline with nearly running on rims, 💡 so i hand brake to make it in the pits. i was in a different car...got stuck for like 10 minutes thinking it would never free its self on lap 102. would of be faster to just do that lap :dunce:

Wait, you restarted the race? Why?

Hell no, ha!! I was finally released, pitted in and rejoined the race roughly fifteen minutes behind, booted it as hard as I could and finally came in after about five or six hours in sixth... Frustratingly enough, out of a 172 lap race, I needed just TWO laps to snatch it back!! Gutted!!

^ The only problem with that theory is the AI hasnt improved enough to not just play super high speed bumper cars yet. Though a great way to test damage modeling. lol 👍

lmao! I had a funny pit lane encounter yesterday- x2010 at Indy I managed to smash into the pit lane outside wall flipping me into the pit lane and coming to a stop on the cars roof, lol- got the rollover trophy and the game re-set my car on it's wheels outside the pit on the straight.

I hit that thing in the FGT doing about 220mph. Was vainly attempting one of those astonishingly reckless overtaking maneuvres... You know, the ones where you know you won't make it but you try anyway cos you think you can do ANYTHING! I clipped the wall with my nearside and was hurled through the air right across the pack, hit the barrier on the opposite side of the track like a pinball and came to rest looking at where I had just been in a cloud of tyresmoke! Cue some hilarity and a bent wing :)

So PD don't have to program pitlane penalties for speeding in the pits.
