I’ve really fallen in love with my Porsche GT-RS clones I’ve built. I’ve already posted my 700pp Porsche GT2RS build that is awesome for all the Hypercar Parade races and most all of the 700pp suggested races, but for this challenge I took out my GT4RS clone against all the Porsche Cup races to see how it would do. It is a 600pp tune so it is 50pp below the 650pp threshold. That makes this quite a challenge for anyone playing in hard difficulty, but it also makes these races really engaging against the AI. Your biggest contender is Carrazza in his GT3, but there is a guy in a GT3RS that brings some speed at Spa.

I thought this would be a challenge but still an easy win over all 6 races. Turns out I was wrong. I got 3rd place at the Nurburgring (lost by 7 seconds due to a spin out in the rain), 3rd at Spa (lost by 4 seconds) because the leaders really increased their pace on the last couple laps, 2nd at Lake Maggiore (lost by 1 second), 5th or 6th at Catalunya because they just outpaced me, 2nd at Kyoto (lost by 2 seconds despite taking the lead on lap 4), and 1st at Laguna Seca taking the lead on the penultimate corner of the last lap.

Generally speaking it was a fun series of races using the exact same car with the same setup for all 6 races and really grinding my way through the AI to try to get a win.

Can you beat the Porsche challenge and win these races with my GT4RS clone setup?

No wide body, Aero is Front Type A, Side Type A, Rear Standard, wing is Custom Low, Type 09. Wheels are standard diameter, wide/wide.

The tune on the car is as close as I could get to real life stats. The HP/TQ figures match what I found online along with trying to match the power curves by adding various tuning parts and tinkering with the computer and power restrictor. The suspension is adjustable, but the setup I have offers good handling that is compliant but not crazy. It has a very neutral feel to me. The Aero is good but not Gr.4 levels, so high speed turns still need to be taken with a slight lift on the throttle. Other than not having 7 gears like the real car (not an option in the game) I feel like this is a good representation of the real car. Yeah, it probably should be on SM tires, but if I did that it would perform almost exactly like a GT3RS and I don’t think that’s how Porsche designed it.

Anyway, I would love to hear what you think about the car, the races, how you did, etc. Have fun and hopefully you can win the races. If not, hopefully you got a good challenge from the leaders as they pick up their pace in the last couple laps.

Well, I did it. Bought a new Cayman, bought and changed parts and finally got an exact copy of your car.
The races indeed were more challenging than with my go to 911 but that's why I was here. I only made one attempt for each race, there was good and bad regarding my driving but I'm ok with it seeing it was a first time drive.
As for the car, I say you've built a good one. You called it neutral, I say it's a good handling car that's definitely fun driving / racing it. It's great on the brakes although you really have to start braking early. If I should make a suggestion for an improvement, I'd say try to reduce the understeer that partially occurs at corner exit. I don't know much about car physics / setup ( sry for that ) but my impression was the Cayman's front is too light so sometimes it just drifts away.
A good job you did there !

My car and the race results in the spoiler :

So next thing to do is test the car at the WTC600 at Tokyo, right ? :)

I would imagine changing to SM tires would fix any of these issues. The car IRL likely comes with the same tires as a GT3RS, which the game has as SM tires. But adding those to the car jumps the PP rating too close to the GT3RS and I wanted all 3 of my GT-RS cars to have distinctly different performances between them.

It’s been a while since I ran this car there, but I’m sure it is an easy win. If you need the credits, go for it. I have 95M credits so I’m good. ;)

Just shown this thread to the titans, we will probably be using your tune in an upcoming event, they look very interested, it is the kind of car/tunes we use a lot.

Cool!

I wish I could share my livery but I used another persons decals to create the venting on the front bumper by the tires and the game believes I am using their entire livery. Nope, I had to create it all by myself other than those vent decals but apparently it’s still their livery, not mine.

Got a lucky roll of RNG for the Spa race and Carrazza didn’t even get a podium spot.

On to Lago Maggiore.

Edit:
Well that only took a few tries:

Well, the best I can get at Catalunya is 3rd place. Still 7 seconds behind Carrazza. I don’t think that one is winnable with the car at 600pp.

I did, however, win at Kyoto:

So other than Catalunya, this car can win, albeit it is a Challenging set of races. But that’s the point. Making the races fun and engaging against the AI is what I was going for.

I think I will have to make a car for the Ferrari challenges. That one may be easier with the higher PP rating, but maybe not. I guess I would have to look up a special edition Ferrari that the game doesn’t have and see where it falls on the PP scale. Something in the 650pp range should be good.

Love the look - great job w the vents and other RS touches. Found the handling to have a lot of understeer - having tracked a GT4 RS once, this felt lacking alot of mechanical grip. Softened the springs and bars a bit and the SM tires helped a lot. SH a bit too hard maybe? I find the race pads a bit too grabby on road cars and lock up too easily - as the car has carbon ceramic as an option put those on instead w/o the pads - 622 or so PP

Thx for the build

Well, yes, I did mention above that the car, in real life, likely comes with the same tires as the GT3RS, which are Sport Mediums in GT7. Swapping to those does make the car considerably more glued to the road. And that is probably how it is supposed to be, but there aren’t any 625pp races in GT7. There are lots of 600pp races, though. The Porsche Cup races that are 650pp, so you could use your tune at 622pp. It just makes them easier, I suppose. The challenge is to do them with a 600pp tune. I can do all but one. I must suck a Catalunya because I am so far behind in that race it doesn’t make sense.

Hmm trade grip for power? might make for an interesting strategy twist to the 600pp races

Interesting challenge and I’m game! Did the livery and built the car as you specified, first race at the ‘Ring and Carrazza was more than 20 seconds away at the Carousel, but with rain couldn’t get close enough! Car felt good, bit heavy or understeery but I take it as part of the challenge. Will go for the next and see what happens!

I’m not that good at the Ring. It’s one of my least favorite tracks in the game. When I won I was right behind Carrazza out of the last turn and got the slipstream on the long straight. It was still a huge downpour when this was happening. Like, wet tire indicator was registering on the scale type of rain. I was able to get past him on that left hand kink and managed to not spin out (that happened 2 or 3 times earlier) going in to the braking zone up the hill.

It was a close race right to the end.

Edit: looking at my suspension setup, I think I have the Natural Frequency too high, especially for SH tires. I’ll try lowering that to see if the car has a bit better high speed cornering dynamics.
