Could be just a rumor, although I havent heard otherwise. I actually liked the first one. Although it wasnt that great and I think a lot of people didnt like it, I still liked it for the mindless action flick it was. That and and I'm a big fan of the punisher charactor. I had hopes that the second one would really do the charactor and story justice and be much darker, especially since one of the writers of The Shield is said to be working on it.
I'm disappointed because if Jane is pulling out because he thinks the movie is that bad, then it must be horrible. That and who else would make a better punisher than he? He's like Hugh Jackman is to Wolverine.
