Ok, I'll probably end up regretting posting a question like this, but here goes anyway. Have you ever wondered "what's the use of Summer vacation?" I mean, now that most schools are air conditioned, we should be able to have school 260 days a year approximately (5 days a week not including holidays). I mean, not that I don't apprecicate summer vacation, but I honestly see no point in it; all it does is make me bored (my fault, I'm told, I "need to get a life...or a girlfriend). At least with school you have something to do all day instead of wasting away watching the light-bulb in your cieling fan fade to nothing. This thread was generated out of such boredom and an actual longing to be back in school (see friends again, learn new fashions, figure out how my life is going to go for the next 185 days, etc). Maybe it's just me... What do you think about it?

Boring?! It's only boring if you can't find something to do. I haven't been to school in like... 7-8 months, and I'm loving every second of it. It rocks if you have friends to hang out with, and stuff to keep yourself occupied. If you just lay around the house staring at your ceiling, um... that would get extremely boring very quickly.

I'd rather have the freedom of summer than have to go to school for 7 hours a day. Also,I would never go to school for 260 days. I would go completely insane from having to listen to lectures all day long.

My point exactly (I have little-no life outside the internet, and sometimes my computer can't take the heat of the day (could go Mountain-Biking, but I kinda hurt my arm...)

Yeah really - my summers kicked absolute ass. More ass than Josh's summers, even, though he's a doped-up drunk southerner.

I didn't take it literally because I never take what you say literally, unless it's literal.

And you're the drunk one!?

Actually Brett is - my signature says it all, he actually said all that in succession.

I am getting lazier and lazier, but sleep is much better than school...so practically what Matrixhasu said is what I'd prefer.

Are you kidding? I absolutely love my summer vacations. Who cares if you're wasting time. The way I look at it, I'm only going to be 17 once, and after college when I get a job I'm not going to have a summer vacation and I'm going to wish that I had enjoyed my past ones more.

I agree. All it does is get you used to something you'll have to give up for forty years, or more. School should go all year long and students should finish earlier in life. It would also benefit society at large to not have gangs of teenagers wandering aimlessly for three months a year. That is annoying. Parents who work wouldn't have to turn their lives upside down every June. It would benefit everybody.

Well I'v been out of school now for 4 years now, including 2 years of college, and I must say I miss the social aspect of school, but not the work.As for as your friedns go though your true friends will always me there.I'm 900 miles away from where I grew up at, and my FRIENDS still call me about 1-2 a month.I do think that kids need summer vaca, cause unlike going to work where you perty much do the samehing everyday, and really don't learn anything new.In school your brain is getting constancy filled with new info, and it can be a strain on the mind and body, but I don't think you need 3 months(not that I complained when I was in school)but anyway just enjoy it while it lasts.

Well, this summer I've been kind of sad. I mean, all my friends I made in middle school, we got really close. And now, I have to go to a different high school. So this summer has kind of been a time of trying to recover.

Otherwise, I like summer. No real purpose...I can skate and sleep and get on the computer. I'm happy.

What if Summer break was like Winter break? Two or three weeks. That would make more sense. You'd be able to retain all that information you take on much better when you're continually applying it.

And people complain about under-paid teachers. Pah. If I had three months off every year and long weekends all throughout, not to mention Winter break, I'd not be complaining about making full time wages for essentially a part time job. If they want more money make them work all year and still have more time off than anyone else.

I agree with most of that, but as for as the teachers,my cousin is a teacher, and belive me just cause the school day/week is over dosen,t mean that thier day is even close to being done.I can't even count the number of times I called her to hang on a Friday,or Saturday night, and she coulden't cause she was grading papers all night. Not to mention that teachers have to have a bachelors degree to even teach, and they still only get 30k a year or less. Now you tell me another job that takes that much school, and only get paid that much? And lastly teaching is one of the most stressful jobs out there.

Well, summer's seriously too long. We should cut it down to... o.. lets say 2 weeks. But! We could run a French School system, where we go to school for two months, get two weeks off, two months, two weeks off.

So it'd look something like this *for me*

September, October - school
Half of November - rest
Other half of november, 1st half of december - school
other half of december - rest
January, February - school
3/4 of march - rest *spring break + the two weeks*
April, May - school
June - summer
July, August - School
1st half of september - rest

Repeat~

I don't mind Summer because I dont have to deal with some of the jerks that flood my school. I also like playing baseball all day (wiffleball's where it's at!), and I hang out with my friends. I find it a lot more fun than sitting in our non-airconditioned school when it's 90 out.

Agreed - any teacher who says that the schedule isn't one of the top ten reasons they're in the job is lying.

The reason the summer vacation is so long in the United States is because of the farmers. They needed their children to help them with the crops during the harvest. Now that farms are owned by mega corps. now, there is now no reason to not change the summer vacation length.

I loved summer vacation when I was in school. I would go to the beach seven days a week to surf, bodysurf, bodyboard and when I was done doing all that, I would go pick up chicks. After that I would go home and take a nice long nap, then call up some friends to have a jam session. After that we would go to the mall to pick up chicks. Or hang out at some fast food joints, and pick up chicks. If that wasn't enough we would go the the arcade, movies, hike in the hills, steal stuff from the city yard, hang out on someone's boat, go shooting, fish off the pier, oh and pick up chicks.

Sounds like I had the time of my life compared to the rest of you guys.:D

Typical Californian viewpoint...
