There are some awesome shots in the galleries on gtplanet but i can't get over the amount of shockingly bad photos people take.

I know people have different ideas on what makes a good photo etc etc But, You don't have to be a professional photographer to know a bad shot when you take one.

The difference between people on here is massive, maybe there should be an elite gallery section (hall of fame) for people who are voted in and leave the rest to submit as normal.

What do you think?

ps, People who stick on a lens flare without at least trying to make it look real should have their shots removed!

I know this post will lead to some angry words but i'm not trying to offend anyone, I just think there should be an elite gallery so please don't take offence!

I think it'd be a nice idea, to showcase the numerous awesome works by both Veterans and newcomers, but you'd always get the "This isn't fair" complaint by someone that leads it to be unfair, and sectionized maybe.
I unno, but it'd be a nice lil' feature I think.

Yeah, you would get people having a moan about who gets in and who doesn't that's why it would be nice to get Voted in as opposed to it just being one or two peoples opinion.

^THIS^ I don't think it should be about popularity or anything other that the quality of photos in the persons gallery, that way we will all know that the hall of fame forum would be full of incredible and inspiring photos.

I think it is worth trying.

I'm just talking about the kind of photos you see in car magazines or people would like to have on their wall etc. And anyway, if someone with bad photos gets voted into the hall of fame then they are entitled to be there.

Am I the only one who thinks that a ranking system will disturb the peace that is the GTPlanet photomode community? You should see the rest of the GT5 forums. I think the photomode forums is just fine as is.

No, not if the photos and galleries are voted in. No one can be accused of faouritism if the majority is in agreement.

And anyone who complains then they can ask to be put into the poll etc.

Honestly, i only think people will moan out of some sort of jealousy.

Yes, and I think there is no reason to give that a chance of happening. We already have the photomode awards and the photomode competition polls that show only the best shots. A "Hall of Fame" will only create more reposts. Everyone who has been around a short amount of time knows who takes the best shots and can check galleries any time they want.

I disagree. If we all know who takes the best shots why not have everyones best shots in a gallery to shocase what is possible in GT5.

This. While I'm sure a bunch of us see images on a daily basis in here that we don't think are good, most of the people behind them probably don't think so.

But, You don't have to be a professional photographer to know a bad shot when you take one.

Well... sort of. It's been discussed numerous times in the competitions that there is a subtle disconnect between having an artistically excellent photo, and having a poll-winning photo. There can (and tends to be) overlap, but the average person hasn't sat through countless courses - they see something that they like, simple as that. I'd say "eye-catching" is the best descriptor for poll-winners, but that's simplifying too much.

Oh, I have a hatred for lens flares just as much as the next person, but what people do to their own images is, well, their own choice. We're not a dictatorship, we're not going to force out images because of a poorly applied lens flare.

Telling people they aren't good enough to compare to others, or that their shots should be removed because of a feature you don't like, probably could be taken offensively. Just saying.

Segregation is the last thing I imagine most people would want. So I definitely agree. Like Schwartz touches on, the Photomode section runs very smoothly, this would create more problems than it would solve. Think of the average lurker/non-member visiting the gallery section too... would you give the "normal" galleries the same sort of attention if you saw an "Elite" option? It would actively discourage exploration - we have new members coming in and dropping amazing artwork right from the first post, why not give everybody the same treatment?

Sorry, I just think the cons outweigh the pros in this one.

It may well be a bad idea in some peoples eyes but to me i think it is a good one.

As for the Competition hall of fame, i'm talking about a general one because there are some cracking photos that don't win the competitions.

Regardless of trying to prove the wrongs of the idea, we don't all have the time amd/or internet allowance to trudge through the countless galleries looking for good, inspirational shots.

My idea was a place to put the best ones for easy viewing, that's all i was suggesting.

A for my lens flare comment, i agree it is a matter of personal taste but i still find that they ruin photos rather than enhance them when they are just plonked on with no consideration.

No, we don't, that's absolutely true. But that's true of every sub-section; there's tons of quality tuners, but good luck finding the "best" tunes, since driving styles vary. The same sort of thing here - my favourites will be different from nearly everybody else in this thread, I imagine.

Then rpanico14's thread does a pretty good job, especially since it's up to the creators themselves.

I can see it won't happen due to many reasons, that's why it was a suggestion, an idea.

Although I lurk and post here a lot, I don't have time to go through ANOTHER voting procedure just to end up with another 'Best of' thread.

It seems to me that if you explore the Galleries and Threads long enough, you kinda figure out where the best shots are going to be found anyway - if a new 'tographer appears with any talent, then it's up to him/her to get their work noticed in a Gallery. Believe me - I've tried long enough to get people to visit mine.

End of the day, this is a Community. Eliteist threads would not go down well believe me. As SS says - they would actively discourage people exploring the threads and Galleries for a start.

It's a nice idea yes, but when people stop and think about it, it's obviously a no no.
