In a lot of motorsport threads there's discussion about different cars that can go slightly off topic. I thought I'd make a thread just to discuss the cars, not about events etc. Also post any interesting information, videos and pictures of different racecars that are catching your eye (or ear) at the moment. There are many racecars in history that people love despite them not really being very good/succesful

I'll start off with a video I found earlier of an Group 4 M1 at Silverstone, this racecar is loved by many but didn't have much success, as the M1 was meant to be turbocharged for Group 5 racing but had no chance against the more-developed 935 Porsches. I love it and the straight-six sounds amazing on this video when he finally gives it full revs coming on to the Hangar Straight.

Doing a bit of research on Henri Toivonen's infamous Lancia...

I've always been a fan of the Aussie Group A era, so my favourite cars would have to be the Shell Sierra Cosworth & Winfield R32 GT-R.

Here is an awesome video of the two of them battling it out at the very start of the Bathurst 1000. Bit of commentary in there but the sound from both cars is just intense!!

Enjoy.

Aw, I thought this was a thread appreciating RACECAR. :p

How about the Williams FW15C? The most advanced Formula 1 car ever built?

Not only did it have anti-lock brakes, traction control, active suspension, telementry (advanced for the time), fly by wire controls, power steering and semi automatic transmission but they also tested a CVT transmission!

Aye, it was indeed advanced for its time. Superior to its competition in the '93 F1 season. Very fast. And nimble too, unlike its successor unfortunately.

To give credit to Williams and the FW14, though, it still almost won the title. Who knows what Senna would've been able to do with it for the rest of the season, especially considering is qualifying at the start of '94.

And that leads me on to the fan favorite from the year after that, the Ferrari 412T2, many people have seen this video but it never gets old. I love the shriek as Alesi pulls out of the pits at the start of the video, I'm glad it at least got one win.

I've always liked porsche's race cars, these two being favorites

And my favorite F1 car.

I love the 961, but more in '86 guise without the Rothmans livery.

Risen from the ashes of a dying honda team by one of the greatest minds in f1, driven by, at the time, one the most underated drivers out there, I present to you, the BGP001:

I absolutely love everything about this car, its start to life, the looks, the way it dominated the 2009 championship from start to finish. It was truely epic. Jenson Button used a single BGP001 during the 2009 season, earning its place as one of the most successful chassis of all time, surely making it very very worthy of all our appreciation.

I'd argue that it didn't dominate in the second half of the season, far from it in-fact.

That car was probably the most expensive F1 car ever developed. It had 3 wind tunnel programmes from around Europe! The amount of money Honda must have spent on it must have been pretty crazy.
It did give the team a very special record of winning every season entered (though that isn't a record for the car, obviously many F1 cars have won all seasons entered because most are only used for 1 season).
Its worth keeping in mind too that the car could have been even quicker if it had been designed for a Mercedes engine rather than a Honda as the packaging wasn't completely effecient thanks to the rushed job to get the Mercedes engine and gearbox fitted.

They chose a very distinctive livery for that car too 👍.

I just would've loved it so much more if it was a Honda in name (and it had their '06 livery), I always supported Honda and it's such a shame their '07 and '08 cars were awful (no to mention the liveries) just as they team had serious momentum in '06.

Well it was really momentum gained far earlier by the Prodrive-run BAR back in 2003. After 2004 and 2005, it has to be said they declined a bit in 2006 then really dropped when they got that numpty Honda designer working for them.

I always enjoy this car, especially the sound.
