I'm surely not against it, but isn't the "online dealership" just the same as the used dealership but with rarer cars? Why would they call it the online dealership if it doesn't?

The idea of an in-game trading network is a great one. It would make things a lot simpler (and hopefully more secure) for everyone

I think its a great Idea, and it would solve the issue I have and that is I have to wait another 110 days Before I can even look at a RZ Supra :(
I can go into dealership and buy the crappiest (in my humble opinion) Supra ever made the 1990 model.

But in PD's infinite wisdom, that sometimes is so wise and has the foresight that I do not have, nor could I ever begin to comprehend. They Do not stock the Mark IV supra RZ The most popular, And best designed in the history of Toyota.
So I can see a great need for that.

However It would have to be setup like World of War craft, meaning guilds or servers with groups of say 1000 people, otherwise there would be 10 million of each cars :P and everyone would get left out.

Great Idea

They say PD plans on converting some standard cars into premiums, I wouldn't be surprised if the Supra is on of them.

Too much focus on painting and auction houses and building a fake economy around that junk killed the motorsport in Forza.

It just sucks that the two biggest budgeted racing "sims" seem intent on bogging down their games with so much stupid, nothing to do with racing casual fluff. Guess it gets them a few extra short term sales. But at some point, the people who actually want racing games are going to just quit buying these glorified car themed picture taking, painting, video making ebay simulation games.
Sort of agree/disagree with you. I mostly agree with the painting and such ruined the racing part in Forza for me. Yes, Forza did play very well, not as good as GT 5 but still pretty good. But the problem was I didn't spend a lot of time racing, I spent it most of it customizing cars, trying to copy old race car designs or just trying to make them look cool. After I spent so much time doing that I really didn't feel like racing them anymore, so I went and played or did something else.

With GT 5 I find I'm racing a whole hell of a lot more then I was in Forza. I mean it does play better then Forza but it's mostly because GT is just about racing with not too much to "distract" you from it. Now I disagree with you because I really would like to see a bit more customization in GT 5, maybe a livery editor, not as in depth as Forza but something to work with or hell even changing rims on every car would be just fine with me. I think there can be a good balance of a racing sim with the customization of others.

It's giving a small sub-population what they want. Personally, as I'm a graphic designer and layout artist in real life (well, was before I got stuck behind a desk), I'd love to be given a crack at working on cars.

Designing custom livery in old NASCAR games and playing around with body-kits and wheels in old GTs never made me less fond of driving. The only thing that makes me less fond of driving is if the driving itself is duff.

An online auction house would not ruin the game. It would make it even more interesting for those of us who like building our own cars.

The problem is no car as of now has any real value. I mean there are people (though very nice people) who give away the X1 away for free in bunches. If they go the Forza route and allow a great wider deal of customization options from more rims to body kits to more race modifications to livery editor, an online auction would be fairly worthless.

I agree... except for "Guess it gets them a few extra short term sales". It accounts for much much more than that, with real simracers a very small piece of the pie.

As for the Auction houses, I hope it does show up in the future. I don't know how they'll control the market with all the duping going on, but probably a cloud-based save game backup system would be better (with the game saves being store on an online server as opposed to a usb backup).

Like I said earlier. Simply make auction cars non-transferable, just like the Stealth cars. Only the creator will be authorized to sell cars with a specific custom-livery and set-up, and the livery is locked and un-editable on the machine of the buyer.
