As the Seasonal race allows a certain amount of cutting, I've decided to run this contest. It's very similar to the seasonal with a few, very important, differences.

The Challenge is to use the Seasonal Event but to see how fast you can go, staying within the limits of the track. Obviously, if the game gives you a red laptime, then that doesn't count either. I would like you to restrict the number of laps you do to about 15. This obviously cannot be enforced so I will have to rely on the honour system.

Seasonal: Mercedes Benz Driving Event

The car: Mercedes SLS AMG '10

The track: Top Gear Test Track

Car settings:
Transmission: Your choice, AT or MT
Tyres: Comfort Softs
TCS: Off
SRF: Off
Active Steering: Off
ASM: Off
ABS: 1
Controller Sensitivity: Your choice

Closing date: When the Seasonal closes which is the 26th September 2011

These are also in operation
WRS Rules
Standard Clean OLR Rules:

2 wheels on (or vertically in line with) the track at all times
Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track
No contact with walls or objects, visible or invisible
If you're not 100% sure that your lap is clean, then consider it dirty
No hybrids
No cheating of any kind, these are relaxed races and we are experienced racers, we know what times can be done, and we can read your mind.We will know.
Nothing that goes against the spirit of the rules
Save your best lap/ghost replay

Event Specific Rules
Always have at least 2 tyres inside, or in contact with, the track boundaries. The track boundary is the thin white line that goes round the whole track.

You are also not allowed to reverse from the start line in order to get a run up.

The following pictures illustrate the track boundaries.

Turn 1

We can use the game's interpretation for this corner. Red time = Invalid lap

Exit of Turn 1

The track bounday we are using is the thinner of the 2 white lines as indicated by the arrow.

Chicago (past the tyres)

The track boundary here is the red and white line. At least 2 wheels must remain to the left of, or in contact with, it all the way round. Cones must not be touched on the exit either.

We can use the game's interpretation for this corner. Red time = Invalid lap

2nd Last Corner
picture.php

The line here is faint, thin, white line. The car in the pic is currently OK, but if 3 tyres go inside of the line, then it's an invalid lap. Also take care on the exit and do not run wide over and outside of the track boundary.

Last Corner (Gambon) Entry
picture.php

The car in the pic is marginal but is within the line. Any more of the car on the grass would make it an invalid lap.

Last Corner (Gamon) Exit
picture.php

Keep 2 wheels inside of, or in contact with, the dashed white line on exit.

If you are in doubt, consider it illegal. If you want me to check, feel free to send me your replay and I'll have a look.

When saving replays, you need to make sure you save the 'Save Best Lap Replay' (ghost replay), AND the 'Save Replay' option.

PM me with your time and I'll create a leaderboard. I would like replays from all laps so I'll let you know where to send replays in reply to your time submission PM.

Leaderboard

1st 1'17.230 - daan - unverified
2nd 1'17.653 - PR1VATEJ0KER - unverified

Jesus, I'll give it a go, I predict I will do pretty bad, 1'18 maybe. Fingers Crossed
I'm pretty bad with the DS3 with no TC :/

Edit: Did 3 laps, got a 1'17.653, totally clean
Will try again.

finally someone that thinks as i do... i saw a replay of a 1.15.*** and the way he drove was far far away from being realistic!

Will give this a go, exactly 15 laps. for the fun of it :)

Have you seen the replay of the time in the 1:13's?

Daan is active steering allowed? It will be hard to do 15 valid laps in a row due to the way the invalidation system works. One touch of a cone and all your laps are invalid. The way it was at the actual event, maybe we would be seeing lower 13 times.

No, it's not. I knew there was some aid I'd missed but I've ameneded the rules list.

I appreciate the restrictions the seasonal event gives, but some of those restrictions were welcome (forced lack of SRF being the major one.) With regard to laps being invalid by going off track or hitting a cone, then you should just restart. That may get annoying if you were allowed unlimted attempts, but you shouldn't be doing it all night anyway.

I don't have a problem with times being posted in the thread but please send me your time submissions by PM

Good to hear as I've not used it yet to set a lap time.

I'm not going to do it all night. I plan to try and do a 15 lap run in one go and see if I can do them all valid. Obviously practice a few laps first to learn how to go round the track the right way first. Your exit of turn 1 rule will make it a lot harder due to having to take a tighter line and avoid the cones going into Chicago.

Great idea! Had a blast mocking around this TT for a while and I'm quite curious to see how fast you guys are over this short distance. Fast I guess ;)
