This sportscar endurance race doesn't start until June 9th. What I'm here to ask is if this is still an important endurance race in America.

(thanks: Wikipedia)

Well before the Grand American Road Racing Association and American Le Mans Series were assembled, Watkins Glen commissioned a six-hour race at Watkins Glen International Raceway in upstate New York. A variety of cars ranging from Trans-Am to formula race cars to Can-Am all played host to racing here. The dream began in 1968 and went bankrupt in 1981. The bankrupcy was as a result of this track of not getting enough people to go see a race at The Glen, not to mention it not being a formidable F1 venue. It was revived in 1996 as IMSA commissioned racing at this track with the six hour format. A split in sportscar racing led to this being an SCCA venue in 1998. (I didn't know this) FIA GT ran the track in 1999. And since 2000 (founding of the GARRA), the Grand-American Road Racing Association commissioned the event nowadays called the Sahlen's Six Hours of the Glen. Daytona Prototypes and GT cars now roll around this former Formula One circuit in their six-hour adventures. The question I have for you is...

"Is the Sahlen's Six Hours of Watkins Glen still an important endurance race in America, or has it fallen to the way side?"

What do you think? Let your thoughts be known!
