Not sure if it's been done before, so please lock if it has.

I'm deciding to take a stock Prius with sport softs and run it in the Grand Valley race to find out how far the POSius can go before it runs out of gas. This has always boggled me and I want to find out the answer.

If all goes well, I might end up trying some other cars (Fiat 500 '65, Tank Car, etc.) to see how long they last.

For the sake of (unimportant) research, I will find this answer!....after I watch Shaun of the Dead :P.

Sounds good, but you'll most likely waste your time doing so. Testing out a certain car for like 3-5 laps (assuming the driver pushes the car to its fullest), probably more will already give the driver an impression of how its fuel will go on perhaps an hour enduro. Things like linear graphing, rates, etc., should be able to satisfy an accurate-enough number to when it runs out of fuel, or at least close to running out. But if you're willing to put down some time to precisely find the magical lap of when the fuel runs out, be my guest 👍

There will be the factor of fuel weight, elitedreamer.
As you continue to drive, the car will become more efficient.

I'm not Elitedreamer

And I forgot about that. I guess that will interfere with the data you'll collect mathematically then. But I'm sure there will be a way to recognize & satisfy this interference when calculating the data.

Lol I saw that too.

You would need to drive around at "highway speeds" to do a comparison between that and all out flooring the pedal, because this game does take pushing the engine into consideration (as someone noticed on the gallardo.. it has a L/km gauge that seems to "work" however it's not really all that great.. I've tested it and the displacement for gears seems to be wrong. The same speed yielding at different RPMs, in different gears, uses the same amount of gas). However it's worth a try.. sounds interesting.

That's what I found too.

But I think the OP is testing racing range?

I wonder though.. because going flat out is actually more fuel efficient than track racing where you have to be accelerating constantly, accelerating takes the most fuel. ghsnu, you might want to take it around grand valley speedway or something where you need to get into 2nd gear(? not sure how many gears a prius has lol) and rev back up on a straight.. or even the indy road course (but it's less exciting). Just to see how the range on a track compares to the range on an oval.

I thought the game did not add weight for fuel?

They do. Every car other than electric-powered cars has 100 liters of fuel. If you have around 10 liters left after 45 minutes of non-stop racing, then you'll see some positive changes in your lap times, probably tenths apart.

I started driving at 120kph around the daytona.. actually I'm 30 minutes in, but I haven't seen the gas/battery move yet - can someone quickly do a one make race with infinite laps to see if the gas depletes? Use a GT40 or something that expends a lot of fuel, and PM me ASAP please.. (I don't want to lose a half hour of driving at 120kph)

Actually i thought about it when gt5 was released i was planing to do it with a corvette zr1 and nissan gt-r r35

but i think its just a waste of time but if you want to do it , just do it .

Well, the Prii (love to say that ) was only sold with CVT, so I guess it has a couple of billion gears :D

The CVT also makes it hard to do a test of the Prius, because it likes to go up and down in revs as it pleases.

I do, however, find it weird that your Prius's battery hasn't gone down the slightest in 30 minutes of driving. Or am I just confusing it with the Insight?

But if you go ahead and try this, it'll probably takes ages to deplete its fuel tank.

More fun to make a Prius more efficient. New exhaust system, engine stage 3, full weight loss, new suspension and transmission, racing soft tyres, and power limiter to 60 hp, and then floor it.

I've already noticed this.. when the engine kicks in or whatever starts making noise, the speed will randomly do weird things and rev strangely.. especially when it's about to kick off.

No but seriously, can someone go to infinite laps one-make race in Practice Mode and see if gas depletes on any other car and PM me or just post here?? Not 99 laps either, just go to "0" laps and it will have a special option for "infinite".. I think that's why my gas/battery isn't depleting, but I just need to make sure.

Edit: Wow.. I quit after an hour of driving because I wasn't convinced that there was fuel consumption on.. I think I honestly could have been driving for 3 days straight and not unloaded the tank (driving at 105~120kph).. for the record though I did only drive about 120km (which makes sense, 120km/h, I drove an hour) I did push the car once near the end though and got up to 190kph. The battery went down a notch and then when I got back to highway speeds it went back up a notch.
