It's totally possible to download and install game updates with a bad internet connection, it requires a PC and it's a lot of work but this will likely work for anyone as a last resort.

I had big problems earlier on with GT6 and none of the suggestions people offered on these forums helped. I used a proxy server.

Take this link to get info on what to do. I downloaded and used the same Software.

Latest PS3 updates have disabled this for game patches, the PS3 now ignores the proxy setting when download games updates,

Still works for game installs from PS Store
