No matter loud I turn the volume up, the speakers on my laptop just won't produce a sound. Thinking that the speakers broke, I plugged in my headphones, but still nothing. It was fine before, but suddenly it stopped working. Can someone help me? :indiff:

By the way, my laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A75-S209, if that helps in any way.

what volume are you using?

Double click the speaker in the system tray (down next to the time) and see if anything been muted.

Sometimes for some reason my sound goes away... I guess like I have a file running but instead it's stuck and so when I try to play something else it won't play. Try turning your laptop off and leave it off till the memory (and cache?) is cleared and then turn it back on. Hopefully it will be fine.

Good luck

Strange. This happened to my Laptop the other day. The sound suddenly stopped, even when I tried headphones. I rebooted the PC and the sound came back again.

Hmm, does your laptop have any external buttons or switches on it? If that's turned down, there's your problem. And make sure your volume is turned up inthe system tray. Otherwise i can't help you.

Ahh, there's your problem. You do not want to hear my woeul storys of previous toshibas ... You can also look forward to many errors, including the dreaded "Error 4320: The memory could not be read", and severe overheating*. Enjoy your toshiba!

*Overheating is subject to terms and that you have a pentium 4 proccessor. No preparation heating required to get laptop to reach 55 degrees in a matter of seconds. Why not make life easier and get an HP or a Compaq. If you are on any insurance plan, please either make numerous complaints, or drop your peice of crap down a drain to claim your free and better replacement.

Oi, I should have done a little more research before buying a $1,500 laptop. Anyway, I uninstalled Morpheus and that seemed to fix the sound issue, but I forgot to backup the download library before uninstalling it... :banghead: Now that I know, the next time I want to buy a laptop, I'll look elsewhere.

Thanks for all the help, you guys.

EDIT: Oh yeah, now that you mentioned the overheating problem, do any of you guys know a way to help it from overheating too much? It seems that the fan is constantly on, yet its hot enough to fry an egg. :grumpy:

If you have a P4 thats your problem, P4s are slightly cheaper than their AMD counterparts so most companies use them. They do, however, have a serious heat problem. A P4 is NOT suited to a laptop because they require much more energy to function and laptops have far fewer fans and much smaller heatsinks than PCs.

An AMD Turion or a Pentium M is what your laptop should be rnning on, my Compaq V2250EA is a good laptop, it uses a Pentium M and the fan very rarely is forced into action.

I changed my p4 toshiba o a pentium m compaq not long ago. It still gets a little warm, and the fan pops fairly often, but not the mega overheating fan speed, just the relaxed "all is well, but we're just making sure we're cool" sound. I have mine on all day, and have a lot of programs running - it's my main pc - and it's still pretty good. I really notice the difference in heat.

So my only hope is to change the processor? :ouch:

Well, that or your laptop. Don't blame yourself, toshiba are supposed to be good, and they most probably are when they don't try and stuff a desktop into a package 2x14 inches big. I had the choice between two toshibas and an hp when we bought ours. Why the hell didn't i go for the hp ...

Incidentally, that hp had the same insides as the replacement we got

Oh, if you want to make sure your laptop is cool, get something cooling to put underneath it. I've seen platforms that raise up your laptop and have 2 fans in to cool it down before, for the reasonable price of £30, or $60 if my exchange rate is correct.

The CPU fan (my Pentium M) never turns on, only when I'm doing heavy duty stuff and it's a full whack for a few minutes, the fan turns on and it cools right down. The problem I have is the Graphics Card gets hot easily. The fan is almost on contantly (and fries me in games :indiff: ).

Or, toasts you?

Mine usually has a fairly quiet fan running for what i call usual - skype running, msn running, firefox with a couple of windows and tabs, windowblinds, sysmetrix, yahoo messenger dordling around, and either limewire, itunes or photoshop. Oh and mcafee security center. It doesn't like running games like san andreas without me closing down every unneccecary program first. I usually leave mcafee and windowblinds behind. It doesn't generally go on further than the usual happy fan other than when it's been on all day. I use it more like a desktop than a laptop. I have about 9 things plugged into it at the moment. Usual for me. I think i'll probably end up uninstalling everything other than stuff i really need. Goodbye sysmetrix, and possibly firefox :( Currently it's taking up 3 times as much as ie.
