Well I haven't really come across any polls about the stig, and his racing background, so I'm asking now: What do you think is The Stig's racing background?

I think it's Formula/Open Wheel racing

I don't think open wheel racing, because he takes a different line than most F1 drivers, and he has a very controlled style. I say Touring Car.

I would say he takes a different line since he knows the track well?

Cross between Touring Car and Open Wheelers.

If its the current UK Stig, then it is probably from the Touring Car category. If it was the older black Stig, then I say it was a mix of Touring Car + Open Wheel. If its the Aussie Stig, I have no idea. If its the American Stig, I have no idea. If its the African Stig, then its definitely Rally racing. etc, etc, etc......

I know the African Stig, his name is Gugu Zulu. I have worked with him and close friends of mine worked with the top gear team in Botswana. Gugu Zulu has raced circuit but currently competes in our (south african) national rally series.

It's pretty well known that it's mostly Ben Collins. He (as the The Stig) was interviewed for some foreign TV show where he was obviously captioned, but he sounded exactly like Ben Collins. He also wears the same watch as Ben Collins.

Plus he's appeared on TG driving the Evo and Wildcat downhill against a kid on a big skateboard, and was named in the H&SE report into Hammond's 300mph crash as "special adviser" to the team.

I'm afraid not - then there would have been five or more drivers for that car, which isn't permitted. That Stig was clearly a seasoned GT racer or F1 driver, since he was just as fast around Silverstone at night as he was during the day - indicating that he's either driven the course so much he doesn't need his eyes to do so, or that he's driven it at night before.

Well after searching on the internet after posting that, it does seem that Ben Collins was the most active out of all the other "Stigs" on the show, and that he contributed a lot to TG as a consultant. But even if he was an active member of TG, he surely couldn't do all those Power Laps by himself......
