Juan Pablo Montoya is the only living person to achieve 2/3 so far. All he has to win Le Mans 24hr. Still plenty of time for him to achieve that.

Jacques Villeneuve has also 2 of the 3 legs :) He was pretty close to complete it not so long ago... but he came just short in Le Mans... 2nd place... I think he can still do it ;)

For some reason, people seem to be assuming the triple crown is the Indy 500, the 24 Hours of LeMans, and the F1 world championship. It's Indy, LeMans, and Monaco, just to set it straight.

I doubt we'll ever see another triple crown winner. Driving has become so specialized. But I'd really like to be wrong about that!

Villeneuve never won at Monaco but Montoya did and if he ever decides to get into sportscars it is possible he could be the next one to achieve it.

Indy 500 in a Nascar or a Cart car? I think winning it in a Nascar would actually be the harder accomplishment for open top racers, but I think Montoya won in it both. And while I think it is interesting for a driver to win at all 3, it doesn't really prove so much as it is more a coincident that they won all 3. That is if Montoya won Le Mans, it doesn't prove that he is the best driver out there, it just proves he is really good and lucky.

Indy in a CART Montoya did it in 2000 I think, he won at Monaco in F1 in 2003. If he were to do it it would be a huge achievement and prove that he is more than good across three different disciplines on 3 very different tracks.

Yeay, I did it too..

But IRL, they should scrap the Monaco GP, as it is one of the most boring races (parade?) on the calender.

I have never thought of that, but you are right. They should clearly give a trophy for doing it. Maybe they should add a special 70lap FGT race in the streets of Monaco. THAT could be interesting.

That's a big if, but it certainly could happen!

Foyt did two of the three (Indy and LeMans -- won both in '67, even) but never drove F1.

Mario Andretti is the only guy to win Monaco, Indy, and the Daytona 500, but never LeMans.

I can NOT imagine a NASCAR driver in Le Mans.
Then again, I can NOT imagine a Formula 1 driver in NASCAR.
Juan Pablo Montoya has done so, & is the closest man to be capable of achieving the Triple Crown at this time besides Nigel Mansell, iirc. He only has LeMans left to race in & is already an accomplished driver in the Rolex 24H race.

Nigel didn't win the Indy 500 or Monaco GP, so he's not won any of the triple crown events.

Their, made up, definition goes with the F1 WC and the CART/indycar championship titles, when it is just the Monaco GP and the Indy 500 that counts (along with the 24 hours of Le Mans).

I prefer F1 WC over winning at Monaco. Winning at monaco now is an engineering exercise, as it is most often a snorefest if the pole sitter doesn't break or crash.

Maybe if we are lucky we can see Jacques Villeneuve complete the triple soon.

There's no Daytona 500... :(

So are you saying that you don't watch very much NASCAR? Quite a few have made the switch.

I had to finally register so that I could inform that Kimi Räikkönen is also switching to NASCAR :P

Wow! I'm surprised nobody mentioned Mario Andretti. He is one of only two drivers to win races in Formula One, IndyCar, World Sportscar Championship and NASCAR (the other being Dan Gurney). He also won races in midget cars, sprint cars, and drag racing.

You're missing out on one of the best drivers the world has ever known.

I've been lucky enough to meet him and sit at a table and have lunch "near" him ;)

I'm officially a Triple Crowner! Done and achieved pole in A-Spec 24hr Le Mans this week :D
