I think I've solved the mystery why some people can't get the codes work for their game.
Back then when GT4 hybriding started we didn't know why there seemed to be at least two different versions of the North American release of the game.
Now I'm pretty positive that the reason why you can't get the codes to work is that your game is patched.
Codes that are meant for "NTSC" version are for the unpatched (or maybe for the shrinked?) game and "NTSC2" codes work if you have applied nachbrenners "skip videos" patch below
