Really like those figures, but isn't this going to be the same thing as the R32? I like the look of this thing a lot better than the R32 though. It was expected that VW went with the Concept C instead of the wicked Concept R for their production convertible, but I was still quite bummed about it. But now it's great to see that they used at least the front end design of the Concept R on this car.

The overall shape of the car kind of looks like the C230 Coupe, which I didn't really like, but I REALLY like the look of this Corrado right now.

Was going to read that issule at work but forgott to grrrr.

Looks pretty good, but nowhere near the level of the original design IMO. Are they putting in Subaru Headlamp units in new VWs?

Meh doesn't look anything like the original, I'm getting bored of the 'concept' look. Most new cars look like very similar aerodynamic silver blobs. In my opinion, naturally ;)

I mean look at the Delta and Skyline too...

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if that shot didn't even come from VW. It doesn't have a designer quality to it. Design graduates were drawing that quality 12 years ago, that magazine render spells out "artists rendition".

And the stance is very similar to the original, that's key. The forward leaning stance made the original Corrado a nice, agressive piece.

That's what I was thinking, too.

I see Europe is still suffering from "jellybeanisim"
course, america's "razors edge" is as annoying as "retro"...

America doesn't have design language. Period. Someone comes up with a notable design from time to time, but the boring:exciting ratio of Domestic cars is a lot to almost-none.

Europeans have been progressing car design more than anyone else in the past decade. American companies lost ideas a long time ago and are still struggling, proof of this is how many of them use "European styling" in their advert campaigns.

I was going to buy a VR6 Corrado a few years ago. I loved everything about the car, other than it being fwd.

I'm glad it's making a comeback and in awd form.

edit: I just noticed that magazine is foreign. Considering America usually gets the lame version of every vehicle, I shouldn't get my hopes up.

Well considering you guys got the MkIV R32 (sadly I'm in Canada and they didn't bring it here), there's good chance they'll bring the Corrado here with those specs if they are real.

The VR6 Corrado is probably the best FWD sportscar of all time. I think you missed a good oppurtunity. I would have bitten right away.

I do not think that VW has ever done that. The only thing I can think of is the Lupo and Polo series, where they didn't import them because there isn't a market at all for that. Also there were some mk4 Golf variants that never came across, like the wagon. Everything else, especially the cool models, always came over, like the Syncro versions of some cars, the Golf Rallye and of course every GTi...

i remember the Corrado name in the US...i think it only had a breif run. I'll have a look.

your right about things, tho...the US gets the crap versions of cars, usually...like Renault in the US in the 80's

Layla's Keeper
Autoweek covered the exact same story, hailing it as the return of the Scirocco.

Which is also what they said about the Corrado...

I WANT IIIIIIIIIIT !!!!! GIMME THE KEYS !!!

First concept car that I like EVER !!! I usually dont like concept cars and the future cars that will come in the next years, but Volks done some great job on this... Volks power is up again... If I had the money... :D

re: eliseracer' pics
if tha6's the Euro version of the Sirocco...you lucky sh*** got a good looking version...tho the corrado your showing looks disturbingly like a Polo binged on Ice Cream :P

Like every other Volkswagen, the new Corrado (if in fact it materializes) will probably be priced way to high to compete on even level in the US.

The R32 was $30K in the US. I can't see them letting the Corrado go for anything less than that. That would give it competitors like the GT Mustang, GTO, and WRX STi--I think these will outrun it and outsell it.

Heh, I was going to comment on how nobody had yet commented on the price, but you just beat me to it.

But I don't see this car being much of a success. There are tons of excellent cheap performance cars available today, like the Mustang, SRT-4, Cobalt SS, and many others. It will either have to have performance on par with these cars, or be able to undersell them. Since American cars are among the best values in the world (and because shipping is much cheaper for American cars), being able to undersell them is not going to be a viable option. So, the new Corrado will have to be a pretty serious performance car. Unless VW wants it to fail that is...

American cars are the best value in North America. A Japanese person would say the same thing about Japanese cars if he were in Japan.

This is a large problem that VAG has in the North American market. They are capable of making very tasty cars, but importing them stateside isn't worth it, as similar cars would be better in value over them. A perfect example is North America's Audi A3. How much does it cost?

Those both are what the North American Scirocco and Corrado look like, although that Corrado isn't stock.

Yeah, that is a pretty bad pic of the Corrado

Aren't many VAG cars made in Mexico anyways?

Import costs shouldn't be that large to increse prices. I think VW just thinks it's cars are good enough to command a premium price. God knows, I don't think they are.
