Ok, got mine yesterday with La noir. Way too late delivered (thanks Postal Luxemburg)

Have the standard edition. And WOW. WOW

A big case. Like the good old day.
Opening the case, i see two DVD cases (1 game, 1 with alll the bonuses (no crappy digital only soundtrack) , a big booklet apart from the booklet inside the game's dvd Case, a map, some papercraft, a coin,...

All that for the normal price of a PC game.

Delicious!!

But wait that's not all. No install limit, no crappy DRM (that was infact the only reason i bought it, supporting a genious markting and commercial approch).

What a package

Installed the game. lauched FRAPS....

10-25 fps.
WTF
Scrolling down the settings
Again 10-25 FPS. at this point i had bubbles coming out of my mouth.

Quick googling after.... the Nvidia 3D vision driver causes this.
Plus I am on the latest beta driver.
So uninstalled the 3D driver.
Reupped the settings.
Lauching Fraps and game.
Rock solid 60FPS.
YAY.
Putting nearly everthing to ultra, then i get 30-45 FPS
YAAAAY

For a graphic whore like me, this is it. The game is absolutly beautiful. Textures, framerate, animation,... nearly everything is on the high rank.

Alone for all the above I must absolutly recommand this game.

ANd the game??

No idea

Just kidding.
I am generally not a Fantasy, role playing guy.
Last I played was Gothic 2.
But this feels really great. The combat is nice. And the story seems interesting from what i seen.

With 30 hours gametime, this game is woth every penny.

I get more in detail about the game when i have advanced a little more in it.

What you are still reading. What are you waiting. Go buy it. Now

Very good game. I too have never played the first nor do I normally play rpg type games so I feel a little confused about the story and characters but the game is very immersive. The combat is difficult at first but gets easier as you progress although sometimes sluggish. The only complain I have is the character animations when talking look a little silly. Also for people like myself that don't play RPGs, the learning curve is somewhat steep. Don't let that scare you away though because this game is great.

I've only heard great things about this game, with the exception that it's a little linear at some points.

I think I'll buy it for the PC, I'm a sucker for RPGs...

Ok a friend just loaned me this game a couple of days ago, so now after almost completing the Prologue portions I must say; Excellent Game. No doubt. Very, very immersive graphical environments, humorous (in a crude way) and intriguing dialogue and a play style that I very much enjoy. After so many hundreds of hours with Demon's Souls I can really see that the developers weren't kidding when they said that DS inspired to a fair degree the combat in this game.

Great game so far and I hear it only gets better. 👍

Interesting feedback on the FPS vs drivers used issues you noticed. Currently using an ATI 5770-HD vintage card I'm getting 30-ish framerates using basically Medium settings with tweaks. JIC you have better knowledge than I've found regarding the game and ATI cards, do you have any idea if I might also do better with higher settings? I tried High and the performance dropped to mostly mid 20's. One thing I am doing ATM is uninstalling my old VC drivers, cleaning out the registry, defragging and then plan to install the most recent drivers JIC it will help. Anyway just curiouis is you might know anything.

I am still not done with the witcher 1 lol. i'm guessing the second game is also this big, if not bigger?

Dunno on the relative sizes of the 2 games, so far through Act I and completeing all the side quests I've put in at least 15hrs I'd guess. I am very thorough when playing this type of game however, so that time includes retreading old ground several times to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Really nice W2 graphical tweak guide for those interested:

What follows are full descriptions for the numerous settings available in TW2's built-in Configuration Tool, including screenshot comparisons where relevant to highlight the impact on image quality of changing these settings. Performance information is also provided for every setting, although bear in mind that the precise impact on your particular system depends on your specific hardware combination and your other game and system-wide settings. The aim here is to give you enough information so that you can make an informed choice as to the settings you enable or disable to obtain a balance of visual quality and performance acceptable to you.

the kombat feels very clunky :/ i just died fighting 3 guys cus he wouldn't block when i pressed teh block key, and then when i tried to move backwards, he moved forwards... over and over again till he died.

Yeah the combat does take some getting used to I understand. Even then, you will still have times where your character just doesn't do what you wanted or expected and that can be annoying. I even recently had a fight where, for whatever reason, the game wouldn't let me hit with my sword an archer that was kicking my butt. However there's always another way to accomplish a victory, so in that instance I gave up trying to melee him and just threw a couple of poisoned daggers his way. Problem solved.

All I can say is stick with it, blocking is your friend, bombs are very useful and when fighting multiple opponents at the same time try to lure/funnel them through choke points so you can better pick them off one by one.

Also, JIC, I've read where the 1.2 patch improved the combat responsiveness so if for some reason you haven't downloaded that one yet get it.

There's some nice community game tweaks that can be found here:
http://www.witchernexus.com/downloads/top/

"Panel Tweaks" I think is a fantastic mod, for some "Change Max Weight Capacity" is something to consider and "HUD Tweaks" has merits as well.

Yeah, i have to do a lot of running when i fight groups, at least until I level up and learn new attacks/spells. :/

Just finished TW2. Awesome RPG experience. The final act leaves a little bit to be desired in the amount of content department, but in the end that is really just a minor niggle compared to the greatness of the game in total. The story developments are rather interesting even until the very end.

Also, FWIW, my copy came with a 10% off voucher from Nvidia towards the purchase of either a GTX 550 or GTX 560 VC. The voucher is good until 9/30/11. As I have no interest in this offer it is up for grabs for anyone who could/wants to take advantage of it.

For reference here is an article that breaks down the performance differences seen by various modern VC at different settings:
http://www.techspot.com/review/405-the-witcher-2-performance/

Also here's the link to the EVGA/W2 offer page. Interesting the page states that the offer cut off is now 12/31/11:

I saw your avatar the other day and said to myself, "Oh yeah.....Witcher 2" and headed straight to steam and started my ~17gb download. Just started Chapter 2. Amazing game so far. I just finished Skyrim's main and most side quests so I was in the mood for something new and this one fits the bill nicely.

Thanks for the reminder about this game, much appreciated! :D

no problem hehe. I got distracted by battlefield 3 and skyrim, so I havent progressed very far in the game :/

No problem here finish them and get back, i was too distracted from Fallout New Vegas by Skyrim :)

Just finished it this weekend. I don't think I will replay it to take some of the other paths available but I did enjoy the game and didn't find it monotonousness at all.

Loool, still haven't finished the game (as so many of the recent games), really need to dive into this one though, first and second chapter were excellent.

^ This. Seems life gets in the way of my gaming far too much these says. I received Warhammer 40K Space Marine and Uncharted 3 for christmas and haven't even opened the boxes yet

I have been looking forward to this game but I am a bit nervous about the "maturity" that is being mentioned in some reviews. Something was even mentioned about rape (I cant stand seeing rape scenes in movies and sure as heck dont want to see this in a game.)

"Nothing is sugarcoated or watered down in Assassins of Kings. Full (female) nudity and sex scenes are in ample supply, sure, but those come accompanied by violence and a plot heavily laden with political intrigue. Rape, torture, and murder are an everyday occurrence, even sanctioned by the governing rulers who ceaselessly wage war against one another."

"it embraces the adult themes – no matter how gut-wrenching"

Can someone clearify what I am to expect with this? :scared:

I think that you expect way too much from game thinking only of rape blood
&gore and violence. If any of those life experiences will appear in final game then I'm sure that it would be in small proportion. One scene or one talk about it in game plot. Nothing more than than.

I'm 100% sure that in Witcher II you won't be running through the villages killing and raping every live form that is breathing and not running into a tree. 👍

I dont mind gore and violence. I just dont want to see a rape scene. So if thats not in the game then thats excellent! I plan to rent this tomorrow for sure to check it out.

If it's what I think, it's a told story where someone got raped, no need to play through it or not even showed. It's just a part of the told story. No showing, so you fine ;)

And for the sex in the game, it's a game, it's a fair bit more expicit than Mass effect but nothing hardcore. Think of the 80-90's softporn. No action showed, just some polygones grinding each other ;)

Play it, awesome game, cool story

360 version.

I played for 3 hours last night. Gameplay reminds me a LOT of Assassins Creed mixed with Fable with a tiny bit of Skyrim scenery. The learning curve in the beginning is a little steep and as others have said, they throw a lot at you in the first arena which is within 20 minutes of starting the game. The tutorial is pretty much a crash course. As for graphics, they look a bit rough at first. So now the statement I heard about the 360 version having 2005 graphics does make sense when you first start playing. After the first tutorial and the arena tutorial, the graphics do get better. But still nowhere near on par with Skyrim or Mass Effect. So I disagree with the review I read that said "best looking RPG on the 360". Not quite. Its very colorful for sure like Fable, but the blury draw distance at times reminds me of what GTA4 did to cheat the draw distance. Sometimes it looks great other times not so great. As for open world freedom, well its not open world like Skyrim. More like Fable where you are fairly linear with the exploration.
.
As I said, I am only 3 hours in so this is only my first impression. The story is very good and so far a fun game. It has been a good rental, not sure if I would consider it a purchase yet. After I rented Skyrim, I knew instantly I was going to buy that. This isnt a game I would recommend to everyone. So if you like a mix of Assassins Creed combat system mixed with Fables colorful graphics and a little Skyrim scenery, then you might want to check it out. But I would suggest a rental first to be safe.
.
The one thing I forgot to mention in my quick review above was the QTE's (Quick Time Events). I really cant stand those and in this game if you fail, you are dead. Thats my only main complaint so far. Some games are generous with these and will allow you to miss a few but TW2 is not so forgiving at times. In fact these are some of the fastest QTES I have ever seen in a game. I thought I was playing rock band a couple times. haha

Some more feedback. Now I have about 6 hours into the game and the most frustrating part is the lack of free roam freedom, no fast travel, and too much backtracking. I dont mind backtracking if there is fast travel but this game doesnt have that and it doesnt even have a sprint button. Plus way too many invisible walls. You need to walk from point A to point B. Try to go through the woods and cant. Try walking way to the left, dead end. Realize must have to walk all the way to the right toward the arrow. Its much more restricted than Fable as a comparison. Been looking forward to TW2 for months but I find that I am trying too hard to like this game. The controls being too much like Assassins Creed doesnt help either. Especially when 6-8 enemies are attacking all at the same time. Right now it autosaved right before a main enemy and I keep dyying so I am stuck. I will try to load a previous save tonight before that battle and see if that helps. I am going to give it one last try tonight with the rental, after that I feel it just might not be for me.
