I saw this on another forum I frequent.

Ford is making me change the name of The Ranger Station and pay them $5,000. I have to sign an agreement as well and they want it all by the 19th of this month.

Ford feels that we are infringing on their trademarks and violating their intellectual property rights because we use 'Ranger' in our name.

Apparently it's ok for Ranger Boats, Polaris Ranger and the Lone Ranger.

We are not the first to get attacked by this:

The question is, where do we go from here?

How are we possibly going to rename the site and still be able to attract Ranger owners, when Ford doesn't want us using their name.

To clarify:

Ford wants $5,000 AND therangerstation.com domain name.

Didnt they do a similar thing awhile back when some mustang guys were making a calendar? Stupid move on fords part IMO.
 
Yeah and I believe it was mentioned they did something similar to blueovalnews.com as well, but Blue Oval won.

in fact id bring the lawsuit up to the attention of congress, and show them how ford is spending its money.

then id go out and register everysingle domain that has ranger in it and just blast ford on every single one.
 
Ford, unable to make money off cars, turn to lawsuits instead.

EDIT: Just sent them an email. I don't expect it to do anything and I certainly don't expect a reply, but maybe if several others have done similar then some sort of a message might get through.

EDIT 2: In the interests of the Ranger Station owner, I've removed the full transcript of my email to Ford.

I have to go along with this , Ford is being way to petty. I guess they need to make money somehow. 💡

As pointed out in the referenced post, he was selling decals with Ford's logos on them, without permission or license. Not for huge dollars, but the logos still weren't his to sell. Apparently that was the gist of the thing from the start, and the lawyers blew up the rest to throw weight at it. It wasn't so much the use of the names in discussions on the forum, or in the domain name, but his earning money from their logos. The is infringement.

Protecting your actual trademarks isn't petty.
