You can play tennis on grass courts as well, though that's not what I played on. I don't play tennis anymore but I play badminton, table tennis and football. I'd like to play squash but I never have.
The only playable grass courts I know are the ones in Wimbledon

Badminton isn't so bad, as the court is smaller and hand speed is much more important than foot positioning (Though it's not unimportant by an means).

Well theoretically any sport can have a toll on your knee(s); I've recently had my second knee reconstruction in two years through skiing and a nasty tackle during a 1st soccer match. Infact, I believe they were both on the same day of the month (July 2nd)!
Skiing is killer on your knees aswell. The football tackle was just bad luck, or bad company.

We have some grass courts in Didsbury, near my house, Wimbledon I believe is the only professional grass court in the UK.
