There is no mechanical damage. At All

Was it ever mentioned on the games description then?.

This statement

"Dirt, Scratches, and Dents
This is damage that can be visually seen, and involves the body becoming dirty, scratched and dented. All cars are affected by this level of damage. "

Is incorrect, I took a Veyron the wrong way round Daytona into the oncoming traffic and the car didn't even get scratched

I also think this "you unlock damage for Lvl x" stuff is a load of rubbish, I am at Lvl21, and the damage is a lacking as it was at Lvl 1

I still haven't seen any dirt or scratches either.

i havent seen damage much in career yet (lvl 18), but in 2p I had 2 rally cars smashed up pretty nicely, along with covered in dirt @ toscana, so it is there

thats a shame.

....and i'll tell you why....

I bought a 206 Gti (premium) tweaked it up and raced it, but as i thought that if i was to dink my car is would subsiquently reduce its performace and handling so i took great care in driving it which actually improved my driving and times some what.

nevermind.

i think i ill still be carefull around the track :) lol

LOL, I did exactly the same! where as before I used to throw cars into corners, I now brake carefully and avoid other cars, my times have improved also!

There is mechanical damage. A few cars I have I had to repair the engine and body from revving too high and crashing the car. Otherwise the car didnt handle very well and the car didnt accelerate as good as it did ten races ago.

I think it can be confirmed now.
http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/products/gt5/cars/

the website only mentions visual damage. Nothing is mentioned of mechanical damage.

I think it's as much confirmation as we'll ever get.

Hm did they recently change that? Am pretty sure that there was mentioned mechanical damage somewhere on their page before, not to long ago.

Edit: But on the other hand there has been said that more damage is coming in an update at a later date i think.

Damage increases the more you level up. I put my 458 to the test and I couldn't obtain max speed on TG track.

No, it is terrible in the game no matter how you slice it. Having leveled damage is moronic as it is. But, there is NO mechanical damage at all.

In the Lupo race I've made a very big crash, around 180kmh... After that, the 4th and the 5th gear where slower then before. Mechanical damage?

I can say, that there is mechanical damage in the game. I mostly realised it with the WRC cars and NASCAR, that were much slower after some hard crashes and also some gears didn´t shift like before.

But all in all I can say, it is much less sensitive like it has to be.

What happened to the video of car damage after level 40? The damage looked pretty convincing to me. Im sure most know of the video im talking (typing) about.

Was that an early release version, and was dropped in the final retail version or something?.

This whole damage issue confuses me.

First off, take a few laps around Toscana, and dirt WILL accumulate on your car. Second, I don't know how none of you are seeing damage on the higher levels. I'm only level 14 and I have had plenty of instances where damage has occurred. Mechanically, haven't seen that yet though.

no damage , then pay the rigity bill or overhaul engine just saw the bill 1 million total damn this is not funny with expensive cars like zonda r or f458 .

Maybe damage and dirt gets unlocked.. cuz i have raced around toscana at level 10 and no dirt nor damage.. Also maybe it dont have to depend on your level but on what events you complete.. Which is quite moronic if that was the case, but weirder stuff has happened.

You can get that level of damage immediately in arcade mode. I posted this on another forum...

If you want to see that same level of damage, take the Ford WRC car in arcade mode, wreck it for about 15-20 minutes (or less if you choose one of the Ovals and drive into oncoming traffic) and you'll get that level of damage. Mechanical damage-wise, you'll start to notice the car pull to the side once one of the doors opens up. When both doors become loose, you won't be able to rev very high. Once one door falls off, you'll get a trophy and it will start pulling to the side that still has a door attached. Once both doors fall off, the mechanical damage seems to go away (or at least you're able to rev higher again).

I seriously doubt damage "unlocks" at certain levels (or at least until a patch is released). I'm also thinking this level of damage might only be possible on WRC cars but I haven't tested it yet on many other cars, so that's pure speculation. The NASCAR stock car I tried wrecking ended up looking like a car out of Daytona USA (seriously, the trunk bounces around when you're on the grass, otherwise the car just looks deformed). The BMW M3 I tested just looks odd after a few high speed wrecks.

Mechanical Damage should be in the next update. Kaz just tweeted something about it. ( I used google translate to figure it out)

メカニカル・ダメージのオプションは次のアップデートで。おそらく12月上旬あたり。RT @y_mokko: @Kaz_Yamauchi RT @damekuma: オプションでダメージ表現を変更できた方がレベルに縛られないし良いと思う。

As i never venture into Arcade mode i guess it got lost on me. :guilty:

Ive just read that Kaz has said that mechanical damage will be implemented in the next update, which should be in early December according to the post.

do the rally cars have a superior level of damage?? and is that why you win a 'base' rally car when you do the first rally special, as that can have more damage than other premium cars??

Nice, looking forward to it then :D

Hi all,
I'm lost with all this damage stuff aswell im on lvl 12 now and i get damage to cars.
I got the first ferrari the 5b5 or somrthing like, that the classic one lol

Anyways i was in a race offline and i hit the car in front a few times not that hard and the front of my car was bent up quite nice i think

Im glad someone mentioned mechanical damage as im sure my cars sometiimes seem lot slower once ive drove them too hard lol

Check your cars HP (BHP) from time to time, after some races (and some crashes and abuse)...you will see a value drop in your HP 8BHP) figures...and some of that my be due to a needed oil change but that is not always just the case...sometimes to recover your total HP (BHP) numbers, you need the engine to be rebuilt...and regarding handling and so forth, go ahead and rework your car's entire body.

Well that's a start, but am more looking forward to see that if i do a mistake and hit a wall at 200km/h i should not be able to continue the race. And for example if i rev to high and to long without shifting gears, the gearbox should gradually take damage and so forth.

In short, something similar to the mechanical damage system in Forza 3 would be great, and that's what am hoping to see in this so called update that's coming in December.

Go crash your kart a few times. Then try and reach top speed.
You can't. Because there is mechanical damage...
Get a grip.

Yeah I've seen mechanical damage as well, Ford WRC in an online lobby where a friend was messing around. He trashed that thing repeatedly. Eventually it was very messed up, wheel was a good 45 degrees turned just to go straight, doors were on the track, etc. Granted he had to beat the hell out of it but it happens eventually.
