Can someone explain me why GT is so far (in graphic gameplay realism etc) from other racing games?!

The only game that do something is Colin McRae Rally (I think) the others are so far from GT
I would like to see more competition (between software houses)

What do you think?

Well, Gran Turismo has, in my opinion, the best 'simulation' experience. The visuals could be better and the game play could be more entertaining and there could be a whole lot more options.

It's cool and all, but it could be a lot better.

Games onm the PS2 can't be much better than GT, as for other games making competition for GT, there is very little and what there is is mostly rubbish, most games makers don't want to go head to head against GT cos they are'nt confident eough but GT can be improved on yet no one wants the challenge, so they make arcade racers insted.

What I'd like to know is why there are no driving simulators. I mean, we have very realistic flight simulators (like MS Flight Simulator), train simulators and what not, but I've never seen a realistic driving simulator. I'm not talking about a racing simulator or a game like GT, but a game where you can actually drive a car around on realistic city or back country streets and roads. Driver I and II came about the closest I can think of to simulating driving in a city, but even that involved mission-based aspects. Plus, the driving physics weren't the most realistic. Maybe the idea of driving a car around with no real purpose is a little too boring to justify making a game out of. Anyone ever seen a game that could qualify for what I'm talking about?

Sorry if I'm a little off topic...

I've dled a couple of car sims, aimed at learning to drive, which is fine if you live in America or Germany but useless if you live in the UK like me :)

But they have crap physics.

MS Automobile simulator, drive 500 miles past repetitive desert scenery on some lost US road ;)

Well the nex gen GT racers are the closets games to look real, I mean what other game, any game comes close to the realistic look of GT3 or GT4?

I'm told that the reason GT drives so well is the way it treats turning.

Most car games treat the centre of turning as the middle of the bonnet (or sometimes the middle of the car) - GT treats both the front tyres as centres of turning. Apparently.

It certainly has some edge over most other driving games in terms of simulating the driving experience - particularly with the force-feedback steering.

The only one that does it better is Grand Prix Legends, and that's obviously pretty focused in what it does.

When GT1 came out people were amazed at how good the graphics were. Now every racing game looks better than GT1. Eventually every racing game will look better than GT3.

Yod don't need to comapare GT3, or GT4, to any game that is out, or coming out. PD will always put GT on top of the field.

They have so many ideas, and so many ways to go with the GT series, it will always be a refreshing game title. Sony has some great game development teams hard at work right now to make GT5 on the PS3 an amazing spectacle.

Well said.

I wouldnt be suprised about GT5 being a starting line up for ps3. I am sure sony will need to have a better starting line up for games as MS, and Nintendo have said they will release their consoles around the same time.

Anyways I would like to see more games that could compete with GT series, it would just mean there are more good games to get and the makers are forced to improve their games more then the competition.

Probably, but they can't plan on GT5 being on PS3 quite yet. Because if ps3 gets delayed a year and gt5 uses more power than ps2 then the game just sits til ps3 gets released

not necessarily...the extra time could mean cars, tracks and tweaks....though i doubt they'll update the physics engine for 5....save that for a 6 like they did wit gt2 and 4

The physics engine will only really need re doing if PD put damage into a GT game, from the sounds of things this is close enough, look at the real lap times compared to the iname times round Laguna Seca.

I don't think that the physics engine would require a full rewrite if damage is included. As long as they get the collision physics right (the amount that you bounce off the other car/wall, etc.) Then it's mainly a graphics change, possibly with some changes to handling ;) But if the physics engine is written correctly from the beginning (and I assume GT's are) then it shouldn't be hard at all.

I would like to see racing games that can compete with Gran Turismo. Right now, there aren't any racing games that can compare to GT, so PD doesn't really have to worry about their games not selling very well. If other car games were as good as GT, PD would have to work harder to make the GT games better than those games, and it would be more of a challenge to make the next game better than the last.

I wish somebody would make strictly LeMans style and F1 racing games that were on par with GT. GT is increasingly skewed towards rice and drifting. I play for the F1's, prototypes, GT cars, and I guess JGTC, too. I'm sick of winning Lancers and RX7's. I'd like to see the Bentley Speed 8 in GT4. Who knows. I'll buy it no matter what, and probably have a garage full of cars I could care less about like now.

But the whole point of GT is that you can take a car that you normally drive to work, modify it as you please ( sort of ), and put it on a track and race it. GT was first and foremost based on this aspect. That is what made it so popular.

I believe Polyphony Digital set out a long time ago to put a game title down that would revolutionize the racing industry. In comes GT, the first real GT simulator. This game was ahead of its time, taking several months to develop it had more than any other game offered before it. Next up GT2, wow, lets give a hand to more cars in a game then ever seen in real life, and lets not forget the neverending combo of courses.
Time goes by, and many GT-ers are heavily involved in the two game titles put out by Polyphony, but what they don't know is that Polyphony is still hard at work developing an engine that would reintroduce the human race into a world of possibilities on the racing scene. This new engine will have the most amount of correlation with real life. Cars will be flawless, not a single byte out of place, clouds of smoke appear on-street while dust and dirt appear off of it. Nothing could have prepared the world for what happened next...

PS2 is here!!!!
While it was selling out every available copy within its first months, GT3, the revamped miracle racing game steps in. Causing the gaming world to shift from any other racing game to GT3, the shift caused millions in revenues. But, was this it for Polyphony? While everyone was amazed and awe-struck by this amazing title, the mighty developers faded into the shadows of Polyphony Digital, only emerging to eat and sleep, never speaking a word of what was going on.

2003...
Many still involved heavily in GT3, and still sales are high. The Greatest Hit has done its damage. The first to see it's magic are growing weary and in need of a fix. Polyphony leaks just a few shreads of info. and taste buds are re-kindled. Not one hardcore GT-er hasn't heard of its arrival, the only question left is.. when?

2004.... GT4 is here...

Well that's not what GT means.

WOW

Most of the people that buy a racing games don't care about realism, technix etc..
EA & Co looks at the money and so always make stupid arcade racing games. PD don't. I think they work with passion on making GT

(this is what I think)

My english is horrible!! :banghead:
