Hi guys, I'm in the process of putting my CPU water block on and I was wondering how much thermal compound I should put on my 3570k (socket 1155). Last time I applied it on the same CPU, I used about the size of a grain of rice, but I saw Linus from LinusTechTips reccomend this amount for a socket 2011 CPU which are obviously bigger. So, how much should I use for my socket 1155 CPU?. Thanks.

I normally go bigger than a grain of rice. Maybe a small pea. Put a blob in the center and when you push the heat sink down it should squash it out.

It got pushed hard today.

My PC's water cooling loop was at 50C on idle.

Stupid 40C day, it cooked my PC.

Sorry, I'l do that from now on.

Edit: How long shall I leave my system to bleed? Its been bleeding for a few hoursd and all of the big bubbles are gone, the tubes just have some micro bubbles on the side that aren't budging. I heard 24 hours....is that the right time?

24 hours is probably best to be on the safe side, but usually after a few hours you're pretty good to go. I wouldn't worry too much about trying to get every last tiny bubble out before using the computer. You can flick the tubes forever and some of those bubbles wont budge

Also, if you haven't done this already while getting the bigger air pockets out, I found it helpful to lean the system from side to side a bit to make sure the radiator and blocks were truly clear.

Thanks David, yeah I can't wait any longer and I've got all the big bubbles out so I'm just wiring her back up now :D I will post piccies when done.

EDIT. All done! No leaks, computer is on and it looks great. Still fiddling around with fan speeds etc (my fans aren't that good) but I'm very happy. Thank you everyone I really appreciate it!
