I've just been looking around ebay for something for my gf's birthday (one of the numerous things I'm getting her), and got onto looking at some Mario-themed PC games. Her laptop isn't that high performance (it's about three years old ish and was average spec then) but should be able to run some older stuff.

Here's one such example I'm looking at: "Mario Kart XP". Mario Kart is the one I'll most likely get (she spends more time on Mario Kart Advance on my old GBA than I do!)

Now, my suspicions arose when I did my normal thing of going on Amazon to see if I could find the same thing cheaper, but nothing at all came up for Mario games for the PC. The second thing that caught my attention was the seller's feedback - the one negative comment he recently got was from someone saying "This is not a PC game, it's an N64 game with an emulator - doesn't run on my PC".

Take a closer look at the listing, and things like the box artwork look quite photoshopped... I swear I can see "64" behind the letters "XP" on the box. Plus, all the games he's offering for PC just happened to be N64 games too - Paper Mario, Yoshi's Island, Mario Golf etc...

Ideally, I'd like it to be a proper game... I'm unlikely to buy it if it's a port.

hahaha, i didnt even know they had that. Most women like games like "the sims" if anything.

That's true alright! My sis is crazy about The Sims big time. She has every expansion pack for both the first and the second game (including furniture and cloth sets)! :scared:

But thats just her I hope...

I don't think Nintendo has ever published games on the PC. Paying money for a free emulator (especially when it might not even be a good one) and an illegal rom doesn't sound like a fun time. Though with a good joystick, Goldeneye at 1280x960 with 16x anisotropic filtering is wicked awesome.

looks like the link has gone down? LoL if that guy really is trying to sell rom/emulator combos. thats pretty lame

I love SIMS1 and 2 on PC!

SIMS 3 is already on pre-order

I care less what you guys say, a good game is a good game!

Nobody's saying that sims is only for girls or that it's a bad game. I don't know why you feel so ashamed and defensive about playing 3d dollhouse.

Cool, thanks for the info. And for remaining on topic...

You're right, the direct link I posted has disappeared, but he's still selling the games - pretty much all of them at this link are ones that he's selling.

Anyway, looks like I shan't be bothering as they look a bit dodgy.

It's a pity they never released those games for PC though. There must be a market for games like that, that don't need high-end PCs to run. And everyone likes Mario games, don't they? :p

They are N64 emulators with roms, just like the comment said. If you're still interested, you can download them for free, and it will be no more illegal than paying this guy.

I'm not particularly interested, really. I do prefer things being legit, more just so I don't end up with a pile of crap than for any legality reason.

In the end I've bought her Theme Park World :D Old-skool for the win!
