It's the summer holidays for my friends and I at the moment and we seem to have a bit of trouble deciding on what to do. Lately we can't agree on anything we'd all like to do, so more often than not it ends up that a few of us do something with another few sitting at home twiddling their thumbs.

I've got 5 really good friends who I regularly go out with or do stuff with (well, when we could agree on things anyway). We're all 19-21, we're all students and we're all a bit cheap. We live in the Glasgow area in Scotland. 3 of us have jobs which often means that we're not all free on the same day. We're not the typical 20 year old students who like going out to clubs every week or getting so drunk we projectile vomit on things and end up with forgotten memories about nights past. We used to go out regularly doing things like ten pin bowling, playing pool and karting, and occasionally we have LANs or poker nights. However, we've grown tired of bowling and playing pool, karting has become too expensive, LANs have become too difficult to organise and transport equipment and two of us don't like playing cards any more.

What kind of things do you like to do with your friends and how much do those things cost?

Any suggestions for things my friends and I could do would be much appreciated.
 
Movies? GT4 Night? I've got a friend that's influnced all of us to get into biking and now we bike together in the afternoon. That's all I got at the moment. :grumpy: You guys have a lot more to do that this hell hole of a town... everything closes at 9p.m. resturants stay open til 11p.m if lucky and clubs end at 2a.m. Don't you guys have a lot open 24 hrs. or something?

Ah, forgot to mention about the cinema and GT4. One of my friends has a different (read: crap) taste in movies and he won't see what we all want to see. Anything he wants to see we won't. Which basically rules out movies too :(
I honestly can't remember the last film all 5 of us went to see. When I was in my first year of uni doing the chemistry degree, I'd go to the cinema at least twice a week. Now I hardly go at all.

With GT4, they're not interested. Two of them basically refuse to play it ("It's only a racing game, all you do is press the accelerator all the time. Give me a FPS any day" etc), one of them plays after much persuasion and the other has GT4 but he's not too good so he doesn't want to play and get beaten. Biking sounds like good fun, but only one of us has a bike. It'd cost a lot for the rest of us to get them, plus we'd have to travel a fair distance to meet each other and only 3 of us have cars.

There aren't that many 24 hour places in the area. The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the Asda in Hamilton. I can't think of any pubs/restaurants that stay open that late and all the pubs stop serving alcohol before 1am, I think.
 
Risk! My friends and I spent at least 8 hours straight playing Risk a couple of times. Same goes for Dungeons and Dragons - yes, I said it. I used to play AD&D and I still would if we could get a DM.

Get a gamecube, 4 controllers, and play super smash bros. Frankly any GCN game with 4 player capability fits the bill. It's what we do whenever we can't come up with a consensus on what to do... soooo we play almost every time my group meets :p
 
Hmmm, Risk is a possibility. I've not played that in years. Could also maybe try other board games (like monopoly or cluedo). I might have a bit of trouble trying to talk the excitable ones into sitting down and playing a board game. Good idea though 👍

One of us has got an N64 and we play MarioKart a bit, but two of us have been playing it for years so it's wearing a bit thin.

You have access to an N64? They like first person shooters?
On the slimmest of chances that you haven't already played Goldeneye to death, may I strongly suggest you pick it up?
 
Monopoly is a good choice. Seriously. Board games are good fun on dead nights. Mini Golf and Batting Cages are often fun, cheap, and usually found at the same place. You're friends are FPS fans? Well what about you? If you are, then a night of Halo 2 is never a waste. Killzone if you're on PS2. Biking is good, and also what about other sports? Do you guys play basketball? Or maybe just go on a game-renting spree. Many boring weekends have turned fun on account of trying some game we all thought would suck, and even if it did, it ended up being fun.
 
Or just go out and rent a game that in a different language and spend all night trying to play against someone else whilst having no idea what your objective is.
 
I'm surprised no one has said playing board games drunk. I can't imagine any of my friends doing it sober, it just sounds boring. sorry. BTW, I don't drink and they arn't alcoholics... I think. :dopey:
 
Used to do GT night, but it got replaced by Mario Kart Double Dash(4players). How about pool?(like billiard) They are cheap, competitive and fun!

They're coming in thick and fast. 2 of us don't like FPSs (myself included), but I'm willing to play a little if everyone else is. We've got Goldeneye, and I agree it's good fun, but it's a bit repetitive for my liking. Mini Golf/Crazy Golf is a good idea, but I'm not sure if there's one anywhere near us. Will try to investigate that one. I dunno if there are any batting cages in Scotland, baseball's not really that popular here. I've wanted to give baseball a try though, maybe buy a cheap bat and take a trip to the beach. I forgot to mention we went to the beach a couple of times a while ago, but the weather's usually so bad that's not often an option.

None of us are really into sports. 2 of us (myself included) play golf, but the others would never give it a try. One of the guys is very much into archery, and competes at national level, but no-one else is really interested in doing that. I've said I wanted to try it before but the rest of them weren't really up for it. The only time most of us have played basketball is in high school, none of us have a ball and I don't know where the nearest court would be. One of my mates is 6' 6 or 7 though, so he'd definitely have a bit of a height advantage there :lol:

Renting a few games/DVDs might be a good idea if we can all agree on them, definitely something to consider.

Actually a golf range might be fun, even sober because you guy can make fun of each other at how much you guys suck. Just make sure the *ricks and snobs arn't there because they will tattle that they're presious expensive club is being ruined because of teens. :lol: :rolleyes:
 
Must everything be done drunk or high to be fun? No. You can have just as much fun doing anything sober as you can in an "altered state of mind". Yes vipfreak, I'm aware that you said you don't drink. Anyway, guess we'll save that for another day in the opinions thread.

Back on topic: I forgot about the beach. It's always a good option, if you have the right weather. :scared: Of course, a rather boring, but not as boring, option is to drive around doing nothing. :dopey: Walking, jogging, some form of exercise. Bah, I'm sure you'll find something. ;)

Well yeah I know it's just that seems like what most teens would rather do, I would prefer it sober but then people think I'm "boring" then. :rolleyes:
 
A driving range would be fun, but I seriously doubt we'd all agree on it :(

None of us smoke and we very rarely drink, so we're not of the opinion you need to be drunk or high to have fun :)
 
I'm not sure about in your area but some of the bars over here feature some bands, like one time we saw people inpersonating the Beetles, they were pretty good too. :D
 
A few of us have been a couple of times to see another mate's band, but we don't all share the same taste in music (two of us are rap fans, two are rock fans and the other one is kind of in the middle).
 
I'm not sure what you and your friends drive... but go driving! It can be a fairly cheap thing to do, as $15-20 will give you quite a few hours of fun.

Also, are there any big arcades in your area? It's always more fun to go play a video game (racing games in particular) when you've got the wheel, seat, pedals and gearshift as well as a friend playing against you.

Do you guys like similar music? Perhaps check out the live music scene in the area.

Edit - 2 posts since I started (I'm multitasking here). I guess the music thing is out.
 
Going for a drive is quite good fun, especially with the country roads we have around here, but it could turn into a competition (which wouldn't be very safe on country roads with tractors, sheep, cows etc on the road). We've all got fairly crap cars (Pug 406 turbo diesel, fiat brava and vauxhall corsa diesel). We do all enjoy driving though, but the two non-drivers would want for us to be driving to get to somewhere probably, since they're not having the enjoyment of being behind the wheel.

Yes, exactly. The days after I turned 18, everyone, and I mean everyone, asked if I went to the bar and got drunk. After the "no" they received, half the people (though jokingly) proceeded to call me a loser. I'll never understand the whole teenage "party/club scene". Sorry, off-topic again.

Back on topic: Like slicks said, arcades are a great idea, and very cheap as well. This one is kind of off the wall, but some places have "karaoke nights". :odd: Clearly not for everyone though. Do any of you guys play instruments? If you do, get together and have a music night or something. :dopey:

There's only one big arcade I can think of that's fairly close and I know straight away it won't be up Lamsey's street. Maybe on a wet day we could persuade him though :lol:
