Ever since I got my PS3, I have had some interest in buying "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" for it. For some reason, though, I have been hesitant to buy it until today when people were all over the announcement of Skyrim. I was considering getting the 5th anniversery edition which I saw at Gamespot (it's been a week ago since I saw it, not sure if it's there anymore) or the GOTY edition.

One problem I was worrying about is that the GOTY edition of Oblivion may have faced the same issues on PS3 as Fallout 3's GOTY edition did.

I have done research over the stability of Oblivion GOTY on PS3, and so far have heard that the PS3's GOTY edition is laden with this 'vampire' glitch where you would get stuck being a vampire for the rest of the game. That's pretty much all I know so far.

So I ask, is this aforementioned bug an unaviodable game-breaker? Should I get the regular version of Oblivion instead? Thanks for any help.

Pretty sure you can avoid the bug as long as you don't succumb to much to the vampire bite.

Initially you can still walk in daylight and cure yourself.

It's when daylight starts to hurt you can't.

I think I am right in saying that.

Anyway brilliant game and what's wrong with being a night crawler, adds a bit of fun I say.

I bought Oblivion when it initally came out, but never played any of the DLC. I recently bought the 5th Anniversary Edition and forgot what a great game Oblivion is. I have about 50-60hrs in and haven't had a single problem at all. This game certainly isn't as buggy as Fallout, so don't worry about that.

My vote goes for buying the 5th Anniversary Edition.

I have Oblivion, GOTY edition for ps3 and I can't recommend it enough. It's a game you will sink many hours into. I honestly haven't really seen many bugs, although I've been told they are there. As for the Vampires, to avoid the glitch, save the game a lot and leave the mission involving Vampires to the end.

The way I played through Oblivion, I was a good guy at first, but then turned evil at the end so I could join all guilds and complete their missions. It really is a massive game.

Sorry to revive this thread but I figured it was better than starting a new one.

When it comes to RPGs I've always been a bit more Bioware than Bathesda. KOTOR and Mass Effect 2 are two of my favorite games of all time. I was thinking about the upcoming year for games and which ones I was willing to throw my money down for. I've heard a lot about Skyrim but that got me thinking...

For the same price as a brand new game (Skyrim) I could buy Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas. I know ESV isn't out yet, but in speculation, is the new game worth the price of three other highly rated ones?

I'm a newbe when it comes to open world RPGs, so any advice on this would be great.

That's a very difficult question. But a good one nonetheless. It all depends on how good skyrim will be.

It won't have the humour of the fallout games, so if you were to buy Oblivion and Fallout 3/New Vegas, you would get the best of both worlds. I can't recommend one option over the other though. Could you theoretically afford to buy oblivion, fallout 3, new vegas and skyrim?

If so, then I would say buy Oblivion, fallout 3 and new vegas. By the time you're done with them, then you'll know whether or not you want to pick up skyrim. However, If money is going to be an issue, it's probably best to wait until skyrim comes out before you decide.

I agree with F1. You're better off buying THREE games that you know are good, that will absorb time like a super huge sponge, rather than one game that (And I HIGHLY doubt it) that will be average.

I've got some stupid 3 digit amount of hours on Fallout 3 GOTY and about 40 hours on Oblivion. New Vegas.. Eh.. I was disappointed that there was an actual ending. <--- (Sorry if thats a spoiler)

Other than that, I guess waiting for Skyrim is what is going to happen.

Also.. I've come across a few bugs in Fallout: 3 GOTY, one VERY frustrating one involved the DLC and getting locked in a room, being impossible to get out.

What other bugs are there?

Hell yes. The GOTY Edition is worth it and IMO, the PS3 version of Oblivion feels more polished and looks better than the 360 version.
