Heres something you wont see on the school run: the new Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia.
As its name suggests, the Transsyberia has been designed to cross Siberia, taking part in the 2007 Transsyberia Rally, which leaves Moscow on 2 August, aiming to reach Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia on the 17th.
Based on the 380bhp Cayenne S, the Transsyberia has plenty of modifications to take it further off-road than the local Waitrose car park. These include off-road tyres, a roll cage, a shorter final drive ratio, enlarged underfloor protection, a transverse diff lock and strengthened front track arms.
Theres also a snorkel, to increase the cars wading depth, and a winch thats normal stored in the boot (where youll also find spare wheels, two 20-litre petrol cans, a hydraulic offroad car jack, two fire extinguishers, two sand boards, a folding spade, a folding saw, an axe and a toolkit).
Just 26 Cayenne Transsyberias will initially be made, though if theres demand this may increase. Porsche has been inspired to put them into production after two privately entered Cayennes came first and second in last years Transsyberia Rally.
And why are we so sure you wont see one on the school run? To save weight, this Cayennes got no back seats.
