I found this to be very interesting

Aside from the fact that I don't commonly refer to a television as a 'machine', I think it's pretty cool.

About the only television I watch anymore are educational-esque programs on the educational networks (Discovery, AETN, A&E ...), Star Trek, and the popular sitcoms from the 90s (Friends, Frazier, Seinfeld ...)

That's cool for sure, I like it. Artistic simplicity.
 
That "machine" doesn't necessarily lie, as much as it distorts the truth.
 
The real question on everyone's mind is -

Who the hell still owns a TV with dials!?

That reminds me of a time when I was in an electronics store looking at TV's. I'm going along the row, looking at the diffrerent models, some were on, some were off. So I get towards the end & I notice one with a handle on the front of it. It had a "screen", a keypad (this was the mid-'80s). It took me a minute to realize what it was!! D'oh!
 
Interesting, but are you sure the TV lies? It can't say anything for itself.
 
True, a TV cant really think for itself, i kinda feel sorry for it. It is heald hostage forced to do what cable companies say.

The statement itself is a bit contradictory - machines preform a simple task; they're not smart enough to lie.
