Ok, here's how the story goes. It's Thursday night, I'm listening to KROQ (a local new rock station) while I do my homework. All week they have been giving out tickets to a Green Day concert. Seeing as Green Day is my favorite band, I grab two phones and dial the station's number furiously. After about 10 tries with each phone, I'm almost ready to give up when, YES! One of them rings. I wait, and to my surprise, someone picks up announcing that I've won. Needless to say I'm ecstatic. I give my information, and the guy tells me that I need to come to the station to pick up the tickets.
Well, being 15, I can't exactly drive down there. My mom knows people from the station, so Friday morning she asks one of them to send the tickets via DHL, overnight. Great, I think. The tickets will be here by tomorrow morning. Well, Saturday comes and goes, no tickets. I'm starting to get nervous, but I figure I will give the delivery service the benefit of the doubt, I'm sure its just a small delay.
So here I am, Sunday afternoon. The concert starts in 2 hours, which is about how long it will take me to ride down to the venue. There's no way to contact DHL, and odds are, the tickets will arrive tomorrow, after the concert is over. This sucks.

HOLY S**T that sucks A$$
those are some bad odds.
Hehe, Green Day... i live in the area where they used to live and i go to the same school at Carquinez :) wow, how far they went

Do DHL even deliver on a Sunday? With most carriers, Saturday delivery is optional and no deliverys on Sundays. I'm sorry, dude! :guilty:

Edit:
I take that back. I browsed the DHL site, and it says there's even a "same day delivery" service, which is available "24hrs a day, 365 days a year".

You could try getting the radio station to phone the concert venue and explain the situation. You could then take som photographic ID along to prove you are who the radio station says you are...

KROQ....go Kevin and Bean, haha. I listen to KROQ at least an hour a day, but I never win anything.... :grumpy:

I never knew there were GTPlanet members living near Orange County though.

Thank God. Green Day is playing another local concert on Tuesday at a smaller venue. Hopefully I will get replacement tickets for that show. Keep your fingers crossed.

You didn't get the tickets because you're a Green Day fan. Duh.

I hate you. :grumpy:

;) 👍

You'll probably get refunded with tickets to "Dia de Verde".

Hahahaha. Nice.

Well, I do hope you get to see your show. Good luck, dude.

I've liked Green Day, even before they made it big with Dookie. They were one of the finest punk rock bands, but what made them special was that they had the capability to grow out of it. When they started veer away from punk, I was thinking WTF! at the time. They've really proven that their talent was much broader than I originally thought. I'm not a big fan of them today, but I am still impressed with BJ's genius songwriting.

So how long have GreenDay been around? I haven't really figured that out.

the reason why i dont like them is because now that there not punk, they really sound like every other doofy band out there....like, the killers, my chemical romance....they all sound the same....

:odd:

The Killers and MCR sound very different.

For something like this, you always hire a courier - not a shipping service. They charge more, but they'll typically deliver in the same day if it's within the city.

I've liked them since early 90's, but they could've been around longer than that.....

Interesting. You don't like the change they made, while I still like them because they changed.

P.S. I love the Killers. I don't know how they sound like everybody else, not many of the bands I like out there uses keyboards. ;)

well, IMO, i think the finest punk band was The Ramones, because they Revolutinized punk bands, and also, using "The" infront of the band name... good idea then, but now, there are way, way, way too many band names with "The" infront of there name 👎

heh, and about the keyboard bit.....i too, know a band that uses keyboards...

Van Halen

'nuff said :sly:

I'm pretty sure that's just wrong.
I still say "one of the finest". :D I also liked Rancid, Ramones, Clash and Goldfinger......... I feel like I missed one.

My Chemical Romance....duh.

Omnis
My Chemical Romance....duh.
I haven't heard a single song from them. They are good, huh?

If you're being as sarcastic as I was, then yes. ;)

I didn't know! Like I said, I don't know any of their songs. Gosh! Flippin' Omnis!

I was implying that they suck. I was implying that your sarcasm was implied with "they are good, huh?"

...So, anyway, I think they suck. No sarcasm.

Well, now that we have turned this thread into a debate on music, lemme get back to the original topic. Bottom line, the people at KROQ rule. The KROQ representative who I talked with got me 2 replacement tickets to the October 11th show at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. If anybody on here even remotely likes Green Day, seeing them in concert is a must. They played their entire American Idiot album straight through, it was awesome. Unlike many bands today, Green Day sounds way better live than they do on their albums (and their albums IMO are damn good). As a bonus, the little known band The Network* opened for Green Day, and that was an event in itself, as they played nearly their entire "Money Money 2020" album. I'm happy to report that everything went amazingly well, and a big thumbs up to KROQ for making things right.

*For those who don't know, The Network always plays with masks on, and have never revealed their true identity to the public. However, the lead singer sounds suspiciously like Billie Joe of Green Day...

Right on. I'm glad to hear that, HondaRacer. Radio stations usually get tickets for all the shows, so it was probably easy to do, but like you said, they made it right. 👍
