For anyone who hasn't heard about this yet:

So. Thoughts?

Personally, I am absolutely disgusted by this, and I hope that word gets out in a big way. The behavior of the developer here is inexcusable, and they deserve to have everyone know exactly what they're about.

Beyond the dev though, the larger problem is definitely the nature of the YouTube copyright complaint system. The fact that it's so easy to abuse in order to censor unfavorable content is terrible, and something really needs to be done, not only to protect the right to free speech, but also to protect the integrity of reviews. If reviewers are forced to live in fear of having their channel taken down because a dev doesn't look kindly on what they say about a game, where does that leave us?

He raises some interesting questions. I agree with him, but unfortunately I don't think anything can be done about this, since the fact of the matter is that the developer does own the game, and if they want to file a copyright claim it's their right. Of course, they're doing it for an unethical and questionable reason. The best thing he can do is what he is doing, getting it out there so people can stay away from their future games not only because they suck, but because of actions like these.

Oh yes! Finally a youtube discussion on GTP!

Anyway, the developers for this game are screwed. Plain and simple. Censoring a very popular reviewer is never a good thing. The instant removal of the video is just more proof as to how broken and bad youtube can really be. There needs to be major changes with that site.

Youtube and the Internet in general would be ruined if all companies did this. In the video above, TB said Sega took down every video for a game series, even if they didn't contain content from the game. Just vlogs of people talking about them. Some people's accounts were permanently banned from YT. Behavior like this is unacceptable.

I hate censorship.

Ok, watched the video. This reminds me of a few weeks back, the youtuber "AlphaOmegaSin" who regularely talks and rants about games was talking about gameplay videos being taken down as a result of copyright claims by people who don't even own the copyrights.

Simply people claiming copyrights on videos to take down the videos of competition when it comes to search listings. Due to the way copyright claims currently work on youtube it is easily exploitable and is becoming a big issue.

Nerdcubed also did a good video on the matter:

LANGUAGE WARNING

IMO the developer was obviously wrong, and it's going to hurt him and the sales of his game, but the real problem lies with the systems YouTube has in place. It's these people's jobs and livelihoods, and they can be threatened by copyright claims that YouTube doesn't appear to even check.

Longstory short, Google meets capitalism, critics are muted, youtube channels pushed to become PR marketing parrots. Vimeo will rise.

Matty, you might want to put a profanity warning on the Nerdcubed video. I expect this thread to gain a lot more popularity and attract the attention of the staff.
