"Police chiefs have warned that slow driving has become almost as big a hazard as speeding on Britain's roads today. In response to this the Government is set to announce that by next Spring Slow Cameras will have been installed in every UK city. This new traffic invigorating measure works in the same way as speed cameras by taking your picture if your speed falls below a certain level.

After months of experimentation, BMW engineers have devised a solution to avoid detection – ZIP (Zoom Impression Pixels).

ZIP is a pixel-based coating that covers the entire exterior of the car. If you are travelling below the speed limit in range of a Slow Camera, sensors around the car detect the camera and the pixels immediately become blurred. This gives the impression of higher velocity and the Slow Camera is fooled into thinking the car is travelling at the correct speed."

Well, it's slightly better than last year's, imagination wise.

Bah. Still not very creative.

A couple years ago, a Lotus enthusiast had posted on EliseTalk how the Hethel had bruned down, and all of the ET members bought it. It caused such a ruckus that Lotus in UK had to throw an emergency press conference denying the fire. That was a good laugh.

This year's joke on EliseTalk got buffed real quick. Apparently Lotus was watching and waiting for something to spring up, and when it did, site admin was contacted and the thread immediately removed.

lol...its a good one...but i like the one i read in todays news paper here

"Tunnel to connect US to Europe - No Speed Limit Enforced"

wouldnt that be a dream??!!!

Omnis
BMW should've announced the M7.

Yup, they did! Check my 'tar. :p

The ZIP is interesting - but making a reverse system for it would have been much more interesting i.e. Driving fast, but when you go past a speed camera it thinks your going slow and therefore within the speed limit, hence no picture is taken of your motor. :D

I think that's the point - there isn't a go slow limit, and i don't suppose there ever will be.

They do have minimum speed limits on some routes which is sort of similar - but even so there is no system in place to enforce that the minimum speed limit is adhered to that i know off!

Anyone catch Lotus's official press release yesterday?

Lotus Press Release
Lotus Cars is delighted to announce that its first light commercial vehicle rolls off the production line today.

The Lotus Elise 'Load Lugga' is an Elise-derived flatbed that seeks to secure a slice of the ever-growing worldwide market for sportscar-derived pickup trucks.

Utilising a Briggs and Stratton pull-start diesel engine, uniquely supercharged by Lotus's own engineers, the Elise 'Load Lugga' is the first Lotus to marry advanced 4-wheel drive technology with the Lotus design philosophy of 'performance through lightweight'. A useful 5kg payload, together with an optional towing hitch offering a further 10kg of load-hauling capacity, ensures the new Lotus will be equally at home carrying a small bag of sugar as an expanded polystyrene surfboard.

With carbon fibre roof rails and perforated aluminium bull bars ensuring the new Elise derivative looks the part without compromising performance, hopes are high that 0-60mph acceleration is less than 3 seconds, and will have flatbed fans reaching for their chequebooks.

An active payload management system, linked to the engine's oil pressure control module, optimises ride and handling round even the sharpest bend, while big chunky tyres increase ground clearance to an all-terrain-conquering 4 inches.

Trevor Houghton-Berry, Lotus Head of Commercial Operations looked to the future 'The Elise 'Load Lugga' is our first move into the lucrative LCV market and certainly lives up to the Lotus philosophy of 'change the rules'.

We like trucking and we like to truck!'

Mark O'Shaughnessy, Lotus USA Sales and Marketing Director commented, 'We can no longer ignore Lotus's big opportunity in the pickup market - we want a slice of the action and are gunning for a 0.0026% market share this year and 0.0027% next. The Elise 'Load Lugga' will be known as the F1.50 stateside and we are set to take the market by storm. 200 Lotus Elise F1.50's in the first year? Bring them on.........'
